We have spent the last week laying down our first cutting of grass for 2021. Maybe I'm alone on this, but how are we almost halfway through the year?

To help with nutrition and proper growth We irrigate our ground from April 15th to September 15th (ish). Irrigation ‘helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes, and revegetate disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less than average rainfall.’
If you don’t know Sequim is located in a dry cap, with an average rainfall of 14 inches per year. For comparison Seattle receives an average rainfall of 38 inches annually. Think of how many people water their lawn or garden every day of the summer, If you don’t add water it won’t grow right? Water is essential for farmers to produce many of the items that feed your family. Aside from our locker beef program, we also grow: corn, grass hay, seed crops such as brussel sprouts, cauliflower, spinach, barley and triticale. Both climate and resources make growing all of our crops possible.

Good health & good help!
We spent yesterday processing spring claves, getting all our cows moved to spring ground, turning out bulls, and filling mineral feeders.
We’re always so thankful for the green grass we have here and even more thankful for people who are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Do you know some of the health benefits of Grass-fed Beef?
Think about what you want to be putting into your body, “You are what you eat” applies to cows, too.

The biggest difference in Grass VS Grain fed beef comes down to Fatty Acids. What a cow eats can significantly affect the nutrient composition of its beef.

Grass-Fed contains almost 5 times as much Omega 3's, 2 times as much Conjugated linoleic acid (CIA) and much less Monounsaturated fat. These 3 factors are huge in key health benefits.

The most important takeaway here is to think about what you want to put into your body. Yes, both grass and grain fed have many nutritional benefits. The underlying benefits of Grass-Fed outweigh Grain-fed.
