Thanks for joining us for our latest Jr. Naturalist: Solstice Sundials! We hope you enjoyed learning about the summer solstice and crafting your own sundials out of clay! Y'all were so creative with your designs. Once they're dry and marked, they'll be able to tell you the time whenever the sun's out! 😎

The Ones Who Got Away:
Eden was an AmeriCorps Educator at the River Center in 2024. She led 5th and 6th grade field trips, as well as other programs. Soon after her term, she went on to study psychology at UW. She graduated on Monday, and of course her parents came in from California to see it. Now they’re in town visiting family and celebrating Eden’s success!

Her mom had never been to the River Center before, and boy was she excited. Releasing coho salmon was icing on the cake! In the fall, Eden will return to UW to earn her master’s in social work. We are so proud of her, and can’t wait to see what comes next in her journey.

They named their fish Liberty, Sage, and Freedom. Their wish is for them to have a good life and make it home.

Attending programs and events held inside Rainshadow Hall at the Dungeness River Nature Center can be, to put it bluntly, a pain in the patoot.

While the programs and events themselves might be quite enjoyable, the same cannot be said of the folding chairs. At least that’s the message River Center staff have received from guests.

The River Center is doing something about that, with help from Nikki Pyle, an AmeriCorps Environmental Educator serving on the River Center’s education team. On Saturday, June 6, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Pyle will lead a community crafting event to make reusable “sit-upons,” or cushions, for use by those with sensitive backsides.

All ages and skill levels are invited to help with the project.

Registration is now open for “Dine on the Dungeness: An Enchanted Woodland Gala Fundraiser,” taking place on Friday, July 24 at Railroad Bridge Park.

“Dine on the Dungeness” has been a long-standing community tradition and annual fundraiser for the Dungeness River Nature Center, supporting its education programs and mission. This year, the event returns with a new twist as an enchanted woodland gala featuring elegant dining, live music, entertainment, professional event photography by local photographer Keith Ross of Keith’s Frame of Mind, a live fundraising auction, and raise the paddle, all set on the scenic Riverside Plaza at Railroad Bridge Park.

Guests will enjoy a plated dinner catered by 48 Degrees North Waterfront Restaurant & Bar, featuring a choice of entrée selections including grilled king salmon, garlic-achiote pork loin, or a vegan byaldi stuffed portobello, along with seasonal accompaniments, dessert, and beverages.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person or $750 for a table of six. With limited seating available, interested attendees are encouraged to reserve their seat or table as soon as possible.
