A huge shoutout to KK for an amazing summer! ☀️ At just 15, KK was the Jamestown-sponsored intern at the River Center and served as a counselor for our Girls in Science and Salmon Stewards summer camps.

Reflecting on her time at the River Center, KK shared: "My internship at the Dungeness River Nature Center was a really positive and memorable experience for me. One of my favorite parts of working there was getting to know the people I worked with and building relationships with everyone. I also really enjoyed helping with all of the different camps that came to the nature center because it was fun getting to interact with the kids and help them learn and enjoy being outside. While working there, I got to experience many different activities and learn more about nature and the environment. I also enjoyed being able to try new things, work as part of a team, and become more comfortable with different responsibilities. Overall, I am grateful for my time at the Dungeness River Nature Center because I learned new skills, met great people, and made memories that I will remember. I'm definitely going to miss being with my team."

Last week, we wrapped up our first ever Salmon Stewards summer camp! 🌊 In collaboration with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition, we immersed children in interactive activities, crafts, and games centered around the salmon life cycle, what makes ecosystems thrive, and how humans shape the environment. The 4-day adventure concluded with a trip inside Fin the Salmon, and a chance to release a live coho fry into the wild! 🐟

A massive shoutout to our dedicated on-staff educators, our summer intern KK, and Emma and Lindsay from NOSC for fostering an atmosphere of exploration, creativity, and fun.

We can't wait to bring the program back again next year! To our wonderful community, thank you for supporting our mission and helping us make environmental education accessible to all. 💚

Nikki is one of our amazing AmeriCorps educators at the River Center, and recently co-led her first Girls in Science camp! Nikki reflected on her experience:

"Girls in Science was my favorite program so far. It was super fun to have time to explore the river in multiple places, both here at the River Center and Old Dungeness Schoolhouse. Each day had a different theme that all the girls happily embraced; we learned how to use binoculars, identify birds/plants, and how everything we see is connected to each other. It was a great time bonding with all of the girls, and I can’t wait for next year!"
