Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10.

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

A few simple charging habits can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires in your home:
- Use the charger that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer.
- Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
- Charge devices on a hard, flat surface — not on beds, couches or other soft surfaces.
- Never charge e-bikes, scooters or other large battery-powered equipment where they block an exit.
- Stop using a battery if it becomes unusually hot, swollen, leaking, discolored, or gives off an unusual odor.

A little prevention goes a long way. Please help us keep Seven Hills fire safe this fall.

Seven Hills Fire Department – House Fire

On Monday, September 21, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Seven Hills Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Nemet Drive.

Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke coming from the residence and were advised that an occupant was still inside. Seven Hills firefighters immediately entered the home, located the occupant in the basement, and successfully rescued them from the residence.

With assistance from our mutual aid partners, firefighters brought the fire under control. Crews remained on scene to conduct ventilation, overhaul, and other necessary operations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We would like to thank the Seven Hills Police Department, Parma Fire Department, Independence Fire Department, Broadview Heights Fire Department, SERT Fire Investigation Unit (FIU), and Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office for their assistance during this incident.

Seven Hills Fire Department is aware of multiple reports of an odor in the area.

Neighboring fire departments are also responding to similar reports in their communities, with no source or hazardous condition identified at this time.

The Seven Hills Fire Department is pleased to welcome David Higginbotham as our new Fire Chief.

Chief Higginbotham will be officially sworn in on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 PM at Seven Hills City Hall. Department members, family, friends, and members of the community are welcome to join us as we congratulate Dave on his appointment.

We look forward to working with Chief Higginbotham and wish him continued success as he takes on this important role serving our department and community.
