Last Mon. night we practiced with dual drop tanks utilizing rear dumping on one PT and side dump on the other. We used the engine / pumper given by Woodland VFD. Found a few issues that will have to be remedied for future use. WSO 1808

No photos due to being busy with drill.

When the pager goes off, everything else gets put on hold. 🚒
Being a volunteer firefighter means never really knowing when you’ll be needed. You could be sitting down for supper, spending time with your family, working, sleeping, celebrating a holiday, or finally getting a quiet moment—and then the pager drops.
And you go.
Not because there’s a paycheck waiting. Not because someone is forcing you to. You go because somewhere in your community, someone may be having one of the worst moments of their life—and they’re counting on somebody to show up.
Volunteer fire departments are built on ordinary people willing to answer extraordinary calls. We leave our families to help yours. We give up nights, weekends, sleep, meals, and plans because our neighbors deserve to know that when they call for help, someone is coming.
Every call may not be a structure fire. It could be a wreck, medical emergency, brush fire, downed tree, flooded roadway, search, or simply someone who needs help. But every time that pager sounds, it matters that we have firefighters willing to answer.
Small communities depend on their volunteers. Showing up matters. Training matters. Commitment matters. And having enough people willing to serve can make all the difference when seconds count.
The pager doesn’t care what time it is or what you had planned.
When our community calls, we show up. ❤️🚒

Young guys or gals. If you live in the Severn area and think you have what it takes to give of your time, energy and talents to help in our department, just let us know. We still have space in our Junior cadet program too.

Of course we are interested in pretty much any age ( 72 ) year old here. But mainly 18 up. Everyone has something they can bring to the table to help. Older retired folks can help by letting in contractors or repair/maintain equipment while the younger folks are at work.

Reach out to President Woodard with your contact info. He can be reached at [email protected] and will get back to you.

Been a busy 24 hrs for your local FD.

Aug. 21 at 22:43 paged out for wreck, overturned vehicle on Vaughans Creek Rd. Cleared wreck, serviced the fire vehicles and paperwork and got about 1.5 to 2hrs sleep before next call.

Aug. 22 at 0510 paged out for a crash with fire, same road, less than a mile from the first call.
Four people were helped. Some of our members assisted EMS while others brought our two PT (pumper/tankers) and put out the fire using the built in Class A foam system in the first truck and additional water being transferred to the attack unit from the second PT. Fire had extended into the woods a short distance and was put out too. After cleaning hoses, repacking hose beds, refilling foam tank, cleaning SCBA, refilling SCBA tanks, refueling apparatus and paperwork got back to home just in time to grab a quick bite before heading to church to assist with VBS in anyway I could.

Aug. 22 at 1105 paged for auto aid with Conway VFD for smoke alarm in a structure. This one was determined to be a cooking fire and was cancelled by Conway.

Severn VFD would like to thank the Northampton County Sheriff's department, Northampton County EMS, Northampton 911 Communications center for your help with the calls and NCSHP.

Also, thanks to Conway VFD for prompt cancellation of auto aid. This helps keep additional resources, responding members attempting to get to the station off the road. They and we know if it had been an actual structure fire we both work to help each other.

This afternoon the Severn VFD performed a public service setting up traffic control at NC 35 and Main St to assist a trucker whose air brake line burst leaving him blocking both lanes of NC 35.

Traffic was diverted down Main St then Water St back to 35, allowing trucks to continue on to their destination without having to back up 35 and take a multiple mile detour.

Just one of the ways we try to help our communities. WSO 1808
