Sevier County Social Media sites that allow posts are limited public forums and are moderated by County staff. All posted content (comments, photos, links, etc.) must be related to the discussion of County programs, services, projects, issues, events, and activ

ities. The following are prohibited on Sevier County Social Media sites:

• Comments not topically related to County programs, services, projects, issues, events, and activities, or the particular post being commented upon
• Posts and comments that promote or advertise commercial services, entities, or products except as stipulated in County marketing plans and determined by the County to be essential to economic development
• Political statements, including comments that endorse or oppose political candidates or ballot propositions
• Religious statements, including comments that endorse or oppose any type of religious opinions or activities
• Posts and comments that promote, foster, or perpetuate discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, gender identity, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation
• Posts and comments that include vulgar, offensive, threatening, or harassing language, personal attacks, or unsupported accusations
• Obscene or sexual content or links to obscene or sexual content illegal activity or encouragement of illegal activity
• Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
• Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party

Sevier County reserves the right to reject, restrict or remove posted content that does not comply with these Policies. All posts and comments uploaded to Sevier County social media sites that allow posts will be periodically reviewed. Communications made through Sevier County social media sites in no way make up a legal or official notice or comment to Sevier County. Please contact the appropriate department to comment on a specific County project or program.

Reminder, the Sevier County Courthouse and Rex Henry Ogle Courts Building will be closed to the public tomorrow morning for Swearing-In Day.

The Courthouse will reopen to the public at 11 AM, with normal business operations resuming at noon. The Rex Henry Ogle Courts Building will reopen at noon.

All other Sevier County facilities will remain open and ready to serve the public throughout the day.

For those not able to attend, the swearing-in ceremony will be streamed on the County page beginning at 9 AM.

The Sevier County Courthouse and Rex Henry Ogle Courts Building will be closed to the public during the morning on Tuesday, September 1, for Swearing-In Day.

The Courthouse will reopen to the public at 11 AM, with normal business operations resuming at noon. The Rex Henry Ogle Courts Building will reopen at noon.

All other Sevier County facilities will remain open and ready to serve the public throughout the day.

As thousands of people have come to the Dolly Parton statue at the Sevier County Courthouse to pay their respects, many have left flowers, gifts, mementos, teddy bears, balloons and other heartfelt tributes.

We are proud to partner with Random Acts of Flowers to help carry that kindness forward. County staff recently delivered a truck and box truck full of arrangements to Random Acts of Flowers, where the bouquets will be repurposed and delivered to patients in local healthcare settings. It was by far the largest single donation the organization has ever received.

Additionally, all of the balloons left at the courthouse in memory of Dolly were donated to Dolly Parton Children's Hospital, where they will be used to bring a little extra cheer and hope to children and families.

The love our community and visitors have shown for Dolly has been overwhelming. We are grateful that these heartfelt tributes can now continue spreading the kindness, compassion and joy that Dolly gave so freely to others.

JOINT NEWS RELEASE

Historic Courthouse Bell to Toll in Honor of Dolly Parton; County to Observe Moment of Silence at Noon

In honor of Dolly Parton and her extraordinary life and lasting contributions to the people of Sevier County, the 1896 bell atop the historic Sevier County Courthouse will ring a solemn toll today at noon (Wednesday, August 26).

The solemn tolling is being held by Sevier County, the Cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, the Town of Pittman Center, and the Sevier County School System in conjunction with the Day of Mourning proclaimed in honor of Dolly Parton.

The courthouse bell will ring as a tribute to Dolly’s remarkable life, her deep connection to Sevier County, and the profound impact she has had on generations of people throughout the community and around the world.

In honor of Dolly attending and graduating from Sevier County High School, all schools across the county will observe a moment of silence at noon.

Residents and businesses across Sevier County are also asked to observe a moment of silence today at noon in remembrance of Dolly’s remarkable life and to keep her family, friends, and loved ones around the world in their thoughts and prayers.

The five-minute tolling of the 1896 bell will serve as a solemn tribute to Dolly Parton and a reminder of the lasting difference she made in the place she always called home.

Statement from Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters and Mayor-Elect Bryan McCarter

Sevier County joins our community, our state, and people around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, a true Tennessee icon and one of our own.

Dolly’s impact on Sevier County reaches far beyond her remarkable career. She dedicated herself to making this community a better place, from helping lead the recovery and rebuilding efforts following the 2016 wildfires to her lasting commitment to the children and families of our region through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Her generosity, compassion, and love for the people of Sevier County have touched countless lives and will continue to do so for generations to come.

We are deeply grateful for all that Dolly gave to our community and for the way she carried the spirit of the Smokies with her wherever she went. Sevier County has lost a beloved friend, an extraordinary neighbor, and an icon whose legacy will forever be part of the story of our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dolly’s family, friends, loved ones, and all those across Sevier County and around the world who are grieving this tremendous loss.

Mayor Larry Waters and Mayor-Elect Bryan McCarter have declared Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as a Day of Mourning in Sevier County in honor of Dolly Parton and her extraordinary life and service to our community.

Additionally, Mayor Waters, in conjunction with Mayor-Elect McCarter, has directed that the Sevier County flag be flown at half-staff until the day of interment in honor of Dolly.

Today was a monumental day for Sevier County as we officially dedicated and blessed the second Safe Haven Baby Box in the county.

Located at Sevier County Ambulance Station 1 at 718 Middle Creek Road, the Baby Box provides a safe, secure and anonymous option for a parent to legally surrender a newborn without face to face interaction.

The first Safe Haven Baby Box in Sevier County was dedicated by the City of Gatlinburg at Gatlinburg Fire Department Station No. 2 (309 Reagan Drive) in December 2025. Today’s ceremony marks the 464th Safe Haven Baby Box in the nation and the 33rd in the State of Tennessee.

A special thank you to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Citadel Construction, Blalock Construction and Isaiah 117 House for their partnership and support in helping bring this important resource to our community.
