NOTICE: CAUCUS INFORMATION & STATE REQUIRED VACANCY FILLING PROCESS
The passing of County Commissioner Ronnie Allen is a tremendous loss for Sevier County.
During times like these, our preference would be to focus solely on honoring Commissioner Allen’s life, service, and the impact he had on our community. However, state election laws require that certain actions be taken within specific deadlines to ensure the citizens of the 7th District continue to have representation. While this process comes at a difficult time, it is a responsibility we are obligated to fulfill under Tennessee law.
Ronnie was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about his district and our community. He served with integrity, commitment, and a genuine desire to make Sevier County a better place. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
As we mourn this loss, the Sevier County Republican Party also has a responsibility to follow Tennessee law and the deadlines associated with the August 6, 2026 General Election. State election laws require that the process for filling this vacancy move forward within a specific timeframe.
To ensure transparency, we want to remind everyone of the Tennessee Republican Party's requirements for participation in the caucus that will select a nominee to fill the vacant 7th District County Commission seat.
The Sevier County Republican Party Caucus will take place this Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the County Commission Room on the 3rd Floor of the Sevier County Courthouse. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.
We will have tables set up outside the meeting room to verify the voting status of prospective voters and candidates prior to the caucus.
To vote in the caucus, an individual must be a bona fide Republican voter. Under Tennessee Republican Party rules, this means a person must have voted in at least three (3) of the last four (4) statewide or federal Republican primary elections. While participation in local elections is strongly encouraged and valued, votes cast in local-only elections do not count toward establishing bona fide Republican status under state party rules.
The same bona fide voter requirement applies to anyone who wishes to be considered as a candidate for the vacant 7th District County Commission seat. Individuals seeking the nomination must also meet this qualification.
If you are unsure of your status, you may contact the Sevier County Election Commission in advance at 865-453-6985 to verify whether you meet the bona fide requirement.
Even if you do not meet this requirement, we still encourage the residents of the 7th District to attend and observe the caucus proceedings; however, you will not be eligible to vote or be considered as a candidate unless you meet the Bonafide status requirements.
These requirements are not set by the local Republican party, but are established by state Republican Party rules and must be followed as written.
While this process comes during a difficult time for our community, it is important that we honor Commissioner Allen's legacy and fulfill our obligation to follow the rules and deadlines that govern the election process.
