Something SPOOKTACULAR is happening at the Sheriff’s Office one week from today! The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the 2026 Sheriff’s Spooktacular Block Party on Friday, October 30th from 5:00-8:00 around the Sevier County Courthouse! Children will have the opportunity to trick or treat in a fun and safe environment with local first responders and our community partners. Vendor applications are officially closed and final logistics are being worked out! So parking won’t be too “scaryyyy” this year for attendees, we have created a map that identifies all of the public parking available surrounding the event. See you next Friday! 🎃

Thank you to all of our seniors who donated candy for the Spooktacular! The candy is in good hands with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and it will make a lot of kids smile during their annual event downtown on the 30th!

Our OCR, CID, and Traffic Divisions enjoyed showcasing our equipment, connecting with students, and helping educate the next generation about law enforcement and public safety. Sheriff Michael R. Hodges, Jr. announces the Officer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2026 for the Patrol Division and the Corrections Division: Deputy Noah Bettis and Sgt. Tara Sutton.

Deputy Bettis is currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Deputy for Charlie Shift. Deputy Bettis has been with our agency since 2024 and is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Deputy Bettis received this nomination by his supervisor, Sgt. Zac Brandenburg, who described him as the following: “Deputy Bettis is an exceptionally hard worker who strives daily to excel in his role, always dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Sevier County. He approaches every call for service with professionalism and thoroughness, ensuring that he remains informed about relevant case law and updates in law enforcement and department policy. His proactive attitude is evident in his willingness to assist colleagues by sharing his knowledge and offering guidance.”

A recent incident exemplifies Deputy Bettis's outstanding capabilities under pressure. In responding to a situation involving a suicidal male surrounded by loaded fi****ms, Deputy Bettis maintained his composure and professionalism despite the high-stress environment. Drawing on his Mental Health Crisis training, he effectively engaged the individual, ultimately facilitating his transport to a medical facility for needed treatment. This incident not only showcases his crisis management skills but also highlights his dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.

Sgt. Sutton has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2020 and serves as the Training Coordinator for the Corrections Division. Major Rhett Rutledge nominated Sgt. Sutton for this award and shared the following: ”As the Corrections Training Coordinator, Sgt. Sutton oversees and manages training for approximately 100 employees. She ensures staff receive the preparation, guidance, and support necessary to perform their duties effectively. Her approach to training extends beyond compliance, focusing on building confidence, professionalism, and long-term success in every employee she mentors.

Before joining the Sheriff’s Office in 2020, Sgt. Sutton gained valuable corrections experience in Florida, bringing a strong foundation in correctional operations and professional standards. She has earned the respect of employees throughout the division and is frequently relied upon for her knowledge, guidance, and support.

Her influence is evident in the division’s training standards and the emphasis placed on preparing officers for long-term success. By ensuring new employees feel prepared, supported, and confident in their roles, she has also made a positive contribution to employee retention. Beyond her training responsibilities, Sgt. Sutton has also been instrumental in accreditation efforts, consistently demonstrating the professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence our agency strives to uphold.

Congratulations Deputy Bettis and Sgt. Sutton! Our agency is lucky to have you and we are excited to see where your careers here at the Sheriff’s Office will take you!

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day! This is an opportunity for the public to get rid of unwanted or unused prescription drugs. We will have deputies set up for the event on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. For your convenience, we will be set up at two different locations: Sevier County Sheriff’s Office (106 W. Bruce Street) and Sevier County Ambulance Service Station in Seymour (106 N. Pitner Road). ***Please make note that at the Sheriff’s Office location, there will be a tent set up in the back of the parking lot in the area of the drive thru where you can get your registration renewed.***

Please note that we are unable to accept liquid medications or syringes. As always, you may come to our Downtown Main Office and dispose of unwanted medications. The disposal bin is located in our Dispatch Lobby and is open 24/7.

We knew these days were coming and we knew it would hurt. It still doesn’t make it any easier.

💔 Late Thursday night, retired Sevier County Sheriff’s Deputy John Conrad passed away after a courageous and hard fought battle with Huntington’s disease. Too young, too soon and more than our broken hearts want to accept.

🇺🇸 Some people earn your respect as a deputy and a place in your heart as a friend. John Conrad did both. John served his country and Sevier County with honor. He was the epitome of professionalism and someone we all deeply respected.

💙 To John’s family, we know our grief cannot compare to yours. We hope there is some comfort in seeing how deeply he was loved and how proudly he will be remembered. As the tributes pour in, it is clear how many people thought the world of John. We did, too. And it hurts to say goodbye, for now. Please know that our heartfelt prayers are with you all.

🫡 To John, thank you for your service, your friendship, and the years you gave to the people of this county. We wish we had more time with you, but we are so thankful for the time we had.

🚔 We hope that you received the shiniest, sharpest, and fastest cruiser in heaven. IYKYK 💨 💨

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who came out to Texas Roadhouse and allowed us to serve you for the 2026 Tip A Cop Fundraiser!!! Throughout the fundraiser, we collected tips on behalf of the Special Olympics. Every tip donated helps support these amazing Special Olympics Athletes, in which some of you got to meet while you were there! We appreciate Texas Roadhouse hosting this event every year. The staff is always so welcoming and helpful in teaching us the tricks of the trade!

The results are in and the top two fundraising locations in Tennessee for cash tips are:

🥈 Sevierville — $2,286.00

These numbers do not include Venmo/PayPal totals. Sevier County this is something to be proud of! Thank you again for the generosity and support shown by our community!

What does that mean for you? It means we’ve been put to the test; that our work is measured against professional standards that strengthen accountability, guide our training, and help us better serve and protect you and your families.

Behind this achievement are dedicated people who understand that your trust must be earned and that we must continue to advance.

As Sheriff, I am certainly proud of this accomplishment, and I am grateful to serve alongside people who are willing to put in the work and share my vision of providing the very best law enforcement service to you, the citizens of Sevier County.
