Gloria Brown of Medina, Ohio, who is both a writer and a student of Medina history, has written a book based on real experiences of Ohioans living in Medina County in 1856. It is for readers who are 9 to 12 years of age. The main character is Eliza Garrett, whose father is a successful attorney in Medina. He is also a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Here's what one reader who reviewed it on Amazon.com wrote: "I loved this book and can't wait to share it with my niece and nephew who have been learning about the Underground Railroad. It's a lovely, fun, and heart-warming story, introducing a mix of historical concepts from sleigh rides to community gatherings, slavery, abolition, schooling, and more. It's an easy read with a story that stays with you."

Last Tuesday Joyce and I attended the Ohio State Bar Association's luncheon recognizing those members who have been admitted to the practice of law for 50 and 65 years. I was happy to see that my fellow graduates of the Case Western Reserve School of Law, Doug Kohrt, Marge and Lee Koosed, and John Pyle were there. I was also happy to see that Medina County Attorney Stan Scheetz was also being recognized. Below is a photo of my certificate and a picture of Doug and myself.

Here is a short and interesting history of the Wells Fargo Company. One thing that I learned while reading this article is that the Federal Government nationalized the overland shipping routes in the United States during WWI. I hope you find the article interesting.

Henry Wells and William G. Fargo join with several other investors to launch their namesake business, now one of the world's largest banks.

Joyce and I were in Cleveland last night because Joyce arranged for us to visit the Cleveland Natural History museum. On the way home we drove around Public Square and saw the beautiful lights. If you get a chance you might want to visit Cleveland's Public Square this holiday season.
