Great info from the Sheriff's office!

Yield v. Stop: A friendly reminder as we head into summer; when entering onto Interstate 80, please remember that you must yield to the traffic already on the interstate. While most motorists will move into the passing lane to allow vehicles to enter from the on ramps, if the passing lane is already occupied, or if the vehicle already in the lane doesn’t move over, you must yield until the lane is clear for you.

Conversely, all I-80 off ramps in Seward County have a STOP sign…not a yield sign. This is not the place to “shoot the gap” because that typically causes minor cases of road rage or heaven forbid, an accident. Both of what we are attempting to minimize as the summer kicks off in full gear! Better yet, stop and look twice to make sure there isn’t a vehicle just “popping” over the top of the overpass.

Please be mindful of all traffic control devices, whether they are stop signs, yield signs or traffic lights. It doesn’t take much time to come to a complete stop and/or yield to oncoming traffic before safely moving into a travel lane.

Public Service Announcement! This month's focus is safety on our gravel roads. More specifically, parking on gravel roads. If you must park your vehicle for any reason, please make sure it is as far off the roadway as is safe. Contact our non-emergency number (402-643-4578) and let us know where your vehicle is and make sure you have a plan to move it as soon as you can.

Nebraska State Statute provides that vehicles are considered abandoned if they are left unattended for longer than 24 hours on public property, unless legally parked. Seward County Sheriff's Office policy states that we have the authority to have vehicles towed at the owner's expense if we consider it to be a traffic hazard (in the roadway). Please take the time to give us a call to let us know your vehicle is not abandoned and that it will be moved as soon as possible. As always, drive safe and enjoy this beautiful weather!

With rain in the forecast, remember that muddy roads warrant similar precautions to driving in the snow. Slow down and drive safe! . . . and hopefully we get that rain 🌧️🙂

An important reminder from our friends at the Sheriff's office!

Good morning Seward County! It's time to draw your attention to an unfortunate issue that we see a lot of today...distracted driving. The majority of accidents occur due to the driver being distracted. Most of the time, that's with a cell phone. Please, put down your cell phones. Fill your hands with the steering wheel of whatever vehicle you are driving and pay attention...it's important! Enjoy the warmer weather today and drive safe!

FYI - Yes there are speed limits on gravel roads 😉
