Laborer (Custodial):

Kenai Fjords National Park is hiring a Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operator) as a Custodial Worker for summer 2026. Support Kenai Fjords National Park by providing safe, clean, and functional facilities for our visitors and park staff. As a Custodial Worker you play one of the most important roles in the park, working mostly independently but part of a fun team of dedicated staff. The pay is very competitive and the work doesn’t require a lot of specialized experience. You will gain specialized experience that can lead to other Maintenance positions at the park and throughout the National Park Service.

WG-4 pay starts at ~$25.88/hour

Park Ranger (Interpretation):

Use your expertise from your connection to the local area to help people from all walks of life develop a meaningful relationship with your National Park next door. Our bright and collaborative team of rangers interpret the park to visitors, helping them find connections that tie them to this rapidly changing landscape (no extra languages required).

GS-05 Park Ranger - ~$21.85 per hour, plus a 3% Cost of Living Allowance

Looking for an outdoor job in Seward this summer? Come join the Visitor and Resource Protection team at Kenai Fjords National Park!

If you have lived and/or worked in the Seward area you can qualify to apply through Local Hire Authority. Applications are now open for a limited time.

We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated, enjoys working on a dynamic team, and is enthusiastic about being in Alaska's wilderness. The candidate will preferably have a Wilderness First Responder certification and have experience traveling in and through Alaska's backcountry. This position is located in Kenai Fjords National Park, with responsibilities in the Exit Glacier area and opportunities for work on the Kenai Fjords coastline.

Duties include protection of park resources and visitors through patrols, education, and compliance checks. Patrols are conducted by both motorized and non-motorized watercraft and on foot in both front country and remote areas of the park. Other duties consist of providing backcountry orientation, emergency incident response and management, search and rescue, environmental protection, and resource management data collection.

For GS-0025-05 positions, pay starts at ~$22.06/hour plus a 3% cost of living allowance.
For GS-0025-07 positions, pay starts at ~$27.33/hour plus a 3% cost of living allowance.

Are you a highly motivated individual that enjoys spending time outdoors and has an interest in cultural resources?

Kenai Fjords National Park is hiring a GS-5 or GS-7 Seasonal Archeological Technician for summer 2026.

As a seasonal Archeological Technician at Kenai Fjords National Park, you'll have the opportunity to explore the vast coastlines and fjords of the park, documenting archeological sites, preforming surveys, collecting data, and respectfully stewarding the lands that have been the homeland of the Sugpiaq tribe since time immemorial. You'll learn how to efficiently collect data, analyze that data, and effectively explain your results to other scientists and park visitors, all while exploring remote locations and diverse ecological environments. Individuals will be expected to hike distances of up to 10 miles a day, carrying up to 50 lbs, and be able to complete work in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, including but not limited to bushwacking, uneven ground surfaces, rain, cold, etc., often in backcountry situations. If you think this might be a position for you, applications are open now through February 17th, 2026.

For GS-05 positions, pay starts at ~$22.06/hour plus a 3% cost of living allowance.

Help take care of your local National Park and build your resume for the future. Get paid to do a sought-after job plus excursions and professional development with your peers.

Youth Conservation Corps jobs are 10-12 weeks in summer. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18 during the program, and no housing is provided.

Summer YCC roles include:
Interpretation: Help visitors learn about the park ($15/hr)
Resource Management: Do science in the field ($15/hr)
Maintenance: Improve trails and buildings ($19/hr)

Want to help people learn and care about the beautiful place you call home? As a Park Guide, work with other local youth and supportive colleagues as you develop professional skills that can help with any future career.

Opportunities for applicants 16+ who have lived/worked in the surrounding area to work full-time during summer between the school calendar at ~$17.56 per hour with a 3% cost of living allowance. Housing is not provided.

Tentative Application Dates: 12/29/2025 - 1/16/2026
Start your application early! Local Hire Authority will now be processed through USAJOBS.gov. Applicants must provide a 2-page resume with required information detailed in the bulletin to qualify.

GS-07 Park Ranger - $27.06 per hour, plus a 3% Cost of Living Allowance

The summer season typically runs from May through September.

Biological Science Technician applications open on December 8th for Kenai Fjords National Park.

Passionate about protecting native ecosystems? Come join the Resource Management team at Kenai Fjords National Park!

General applications will be open for a short period of time from December 8 – December 12, 2025 on USAJOBS.gov (apply first day if possible).

One of the positions will be with the Invasive Plant Management Team under Biological Science Technician (Plants). We are looking for a candidate who is knowledgeable in data collection techniques, experienced with technology and computer software (including GIS), able to communicate effectively with people of different backgrounds, and comfortable working in Alaska’s wilderness on a daily basis.

Duties include working safely as field crew lead for a small team, surveying for and mapping invasive plant populations using a tablet and GNSS receiver to collect informational and spatial data, treating invasive plant populations using manual and chemical methods and tracking and documenting all field activities with high attention to detail.

Pay starts at approximately $21.85/hour plus a 3.21% cost of living allowance.

Winter reservations for Willow Cabin open tomorrow, November 26, 2025.

If you crave solitude, and enjoy the rigors of Alaska in the winter time, the Willow Cabin at Exit Glacier is a wonderful place to stay and experience the beauty of Kenai Fjords!

Willow Cabin can be reached by cross-country skis, bicycle, snowshoes, and dogsled. The road to Exit Glacier is closed at the Box Canyon Gate, 1.5 miles off the Seward Highway. From there it is approximately 7 miles to the cabin.

At this time, snowmachines have not been approved for Exit Glacier Area access. Refer to go.nps.gov/kefjconditions for snowmachine access updates.

It is important to read through rules and considerations at go.nps.gov/willowcabin

Reservations are required and can be made for winter 2025 by calling (907) 318-2040 starting 11/26/2025.
