The 2026-2027 school year is upon us! As such, we would like to remind all motorists in Seward County of two very important matters; School Zones and School Bus Stop Arms.

School Zones: When you are driving through a school zone, you must SLOW DOWN to the posted speed during the times when the lights are flashing, or when school is in session. Most of the school zones are posted as 20mph with the white “School Zone” signs.

School Bus Stop Arms: If you are approaching or following a school bus and the red flashing lights have been activated and the stop arm is extended, you must STOP (in other words, do NOT pass), until the red flashing lights have been deactivated and the stop arm retracted/stowed. If only the red lights are flashing, you must still stop. If you violate the bus stop arm, you could be facing a fine of $500.00, with the added court costs.

Let’s have a great and safe start to the school year. Drive safe, tell the kiddos to study hard and let’s get excited because it’s almost SWEATER WEATHER!!
