Stay warm out there as it cools off. Remember to wear a hat and tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back if you go out into the wild.

We have fun! Training on ivs and one of the new medicines we'll be carrying with the goal of improving our standard of care for the citizens of Seward.

If you'd like to learn more, help out, or just talk to us about anything, we meet every Tuesday at 4th and D at 7pm.

08/26/2025

In the picture of the night of the fourth 2 of those 4 will be gone in about thirty days. They will be missed very much, for all the help we can get at this time is needed.

We are fast approaching 600 call outs this year and will not surprise meif we have 700 before years end. Sure could use some more help, and less critlics . Not that I am totaly against critices for they make us better even when they are just blowing hot air for that is all they have. But still the same old story we could sure use some help, would love to see a dozen ew SVAC members but not able to hold my breath that long. So maybe just two three who are looking to assist and learn a great skill that they can prosper from in years to come There is more to be made than just money, very few of the people I know are doing this just because it pays so good.

It is fantastic to have people come up to you and thank you for helping them or one of their loved ones It usually puts a smile on my face and a little warm spot in my heart.

There is so much goodness in this organization called SVAC. So proud to be a part of this group called SVAC

If you think you might be interested in becomeing and EMT drop by and see us at 200 D St. We meeting every tuesday evening and three times a week we do training .
You are always welcome to stop in and chat with us about joining or what ever. You are even welcome to come joins us if you are with another organization and olny need expericance.

And do not worry about the critices for they usually find something easier for them to do that be a critic of some of the best.

Hope no one takes offense to this, not quit up to par today and just looking for new members

Seward carjacker crashes, snarls traffic at Summit Lake

Seward based Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI report early Saturday evening of a motorcycle being driven erratically on the Seward Highway near mile 13.

While responding, AST was notified that a good Samaritan had stopped to check on a motorcycle that had since fallen over, causing injury to the driver.

Reporting parties also related that the motorcycle rider, later identified as Rondy Cole Dupuy, age 47 of Seward, then stole the Jeep of the good Samaritan and proceeded northbound in the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed the motorcycle was also recently stolen, within a few hours prior to the incident.

The stolen Jeep had continued northbound Seward Highway where it rear-ended a sedan, causing injury to both occupants.

Dupuy was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant for drug charges, and new felony assault, vehicle theft and theft charges as well as driving with license revoked and under the influence.

Two were medevaced from the scene of the crash, with one transported to Seward Providence. After receiving medical care, Dupuy was remanded at Wildwood Pre-Trial in Kenai.

The Seward Highway was closed for approximately two hours during the response and investigation.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Cooper Landing Emergency Services, Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Company and Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and provided assistance to the Alaska State Troopers.

As EMS week draws to a close we wanted to take the time to thank our dedicated volunteers. Since 1953, Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps has exemplified the true meaning of service to others. We continue to do this without paid staff and therefore at no tax burden to the residents or visitors to the area. We respond day or night from Lowell Point to Mile 36 of the Seward Highway and beyond. So today and everyday we thank those who currently dedicate countless hours to respond as well as all those who have volunteered in the past. We Care. For Everyone.

Hi! How are we doing?
We had a very good meeting Tuesday evening at 2nd and D street at 7pm.

We had some pictures taken for a new flyer to show you how many SVAC members there are at this time (there are a couple missing -- they had prior commitments) Sorry, I do not have pictures available to me at this time, but they will be going out to the public soon. If you think you might want to assist SVAC, give us a call at 907-362-1232 or 907-224-3987. You are also welcome to attend one of our meetings on Tuesday evening. We would be glad to discus how you might be able to help us!

We have new Standing Orders that we are activating, so we are also going over them to make sure everyone is up to speed. There are 116 pages , with many new ones. We're excited to be able to improve our service to the community.

In the last 90 days, we have invested $130,000 in new equipment to enhance our patient care. So, we are getting up to speed on that also!

I had a person ask me how we paid for this. It is all paid by user fees. There is a charge if an ambulance transports you. However, there is charge if no transport is provided. I was also asked if we got any tax monies to pay for this. The answer is pretty much no. Last year, I understand the City of Seward had $42,000 in the budget for SVAC. My understanding is that pays for insurance on ambulances, maintenance for ambulances , workers' comp on SVAC crews, and they pay for our fuel used by the ambulances, as well as a $10,000 longevity bonus. My understanding is that $20,000 of this comes for head tax imposed on crusie ships and is know as a pass-through tax.

We receive no funds from Borough for ambulance services on the east side of the peninsula
This encompasses the Bear Creek Fire service area. It cost the people of the East Side of the peninsula nothing if they do not call for an ambulance (and even then, only if they're transported). So it is all pretty much paid for by a user fee!

Anyway, with the number of calls we get, we stay pretty busy! If you feel like you would like to assist us, you can call 907-362-1232 or 907-224-3987 or attend one of our meetings! We can always use more hands and training is provided.

At 1225 this morning, the Seward Fire Department responded to a marine vessel at SMIC Dry dock on fire with reported 2 victims trapped. Upon arrival, crews found a 90' fishing vessel with heavy smoke showing from the pilot house. Crews entered the vessel and with the help from Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department found the sole victim and removed her from harm. The victim was treated and released by Svac Seward. Lowell Point Volunteer Fire Department arrived and supplied support. The fire was quickly contained and no further injuries noted. The fire cause is still under investigation. If you are living aboard a boat, even in dry dock, PLEASE have a working smoke/CO detector on sleeping decks. This fire could have easily had a fatality if we had gotten there just a couple minutes later. Thanks to the firefighters at all the assisting agencies for a successful and safe incident.

We have had the new life pac 35's for a while. It is hoped that we get training finished this week, then we will be putting them on the ambulances before end of week.

We will also be getting the new power stair chairs on the rigs. Having to modify a couple outside compartment to get them on board. Then as soon as we finish training on them we will be adding them. Hope too have both the power chair and regular chains on rigs.

Just a reminder that we are still meeting every Tuesday Evening starting at 7 pm. You are welcome to come on by and see what you think of our organization . Would really like to have some new members to train. So you are more than welcome to stop in. Do not have to be a member to stop in!
