Day 10! Well actually 9days 23hr 27min and 58sec to be exact!
This sums it up boys and girls. Our 8th Iditarod and 14th one thousand mile race in the books! It’s been a crazy year. The coldest year on record since 1904 when they started recording! Yeah that’s right, “started recording”. It could have been the coldest one ever for all we know. But we know for sure it was the coldest in over 120 years!
Life is changing gears as we speak. Over the last two weeks we have been giving our final days of tours at Rod's Alaskan Guide Service. This comes to an official close on April 10th.
Days are well above freezing now and all those lost goodies laying about the yard are starting to emerge. (Mostly 💩 😆).
We don’t plan any puppies this season. The 7 M’s from last summer will keep our hands full another year. Those pups are up to 20 mile runs and killing it!
What’s next? With summer around the corner means another 2 week trip to Juneau for me -Matt- in the next couple weeks to help get Alaska Icefield Expeditions, Inc. glacier camps up and running. Fun adventure filled days loaded with helicopters, glaciers, hundreds of dogs, and loads of excitement. I’ll be sure to post a few pics and or videos! Once back from Juneau in early May the focus is on the “pack”. While Fairbanks’ summer weather is too hot to train in harness the dogs will be loose almost daily in packs for exercise. Normally 10-12 dogs at a time. They can do as they please with 40 acres of land, a few kiddy pools of cold water randomly about, probably 10,000 moose, caribou, and cow bones on property for them. Some hide bones all day, some find bones all day, and many just simply find a spot in the shade to sleep.
We will keep posting! Trying to share more of what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. Thank you all for cheering us on this winter! Don’t go anywhere, prep for the 2027 Iditarod is already in the making!
