Day Two: BDC Autism Acceptance Water Day

Special thanks to the Gloucester County Special Services Education Association for sponsoring this event through a PEP grant and to the BDC PTO for securing the fencing donation from Fazzio’s. The fence helped keep our students safe while they enjoyed having fun!

Special note: GCSSSD has the most amazing staff! They are kind, caring and always out our kiddos first! Thank you, BDC staff, for making the past two days, days to remember!

BBR held its annual South High School BBQ last Friday. Staff and students enjoyed burgers and dogs from the grill...grilled by SH staff! Students participated in volleyball, kickball, and basketball games! They spent time with their peers socializing and cooled off with a wonderful "water ice" treat. End of the year activities are so much fun! Thanks to all who participated and who made this event so much fun!

The GCSSSD Career Center @ the Sweeney Building met with Deptford Police this week, to share some cookies and just get to know one another. Shanell Principate, CC Transition Coordinator, arranged for the meeting, calling it "Cookies with Cops" to help the Career Center students build a positive relationship with law enforcement. BBR held it's "Vocational Showcase" today in the building gymnasium. Vocations presented this year's projects through photography, drawings, visual applications and yes...taste testing! The vocations represented today included Automotive Technologies, Neo Chefs, Digital Media Arts, the BBR Art Class, BBR Library Studies, the Retail Grab and Go, the Fulfillment & Distribution Center and Horticulture. Staff and students perused the displays, discovered a rainbow of food, learned about engines and voted on their favorite photos and flower arrangements. Thank you to all who participated! That's a wrap Vocations! Another year in the books!

The BDC held their "Water Day" today in the backyard of their building. There were wading pools, small pools, and slip and slide pools. Students cycled through specific periods while working on their socialization skills. They practiced taking turns, sharing, and doing their best not to splash anyone in the face. However, many of the students wanted to be wet from their head to their toes! Welcome back warm weather! We've missed you!

This week GCSSSD students attended the Dare to Dream Student Leadership Conference at Rowan University. The students from both GCSSSD and GCIT teamed up to present a breakout session titled, "Waiting for the World to Change." Their session explored how intentional inclusion can bring deaf and hearing students together to connect, communicate, and succeed side by side. Participants were taught how shared experiences, open communication, and mutual understanding help break down barriers and create a more inclusive school culture where everyone feels valued and heard.

Bankbridge Elementary held its spring show "The Grammy Awards" today in the BBE gym. Instructors Alyssa Cop, Melanie Shields and TJ Fry, put on a spectacular show starring students and staff! Dancing, singing and even smoke machines graced the stage in the gym! Today was the dress rehearsal for students and staff. Tomorrow...that's the test! Administration and parents will take their seats to witness another amazing Bankbridge Artist Development (BAD) production! Stay tuned....
