⚠️ Barnsboro Rd. - CR609 is CLOSED between Jefferson Rd. & Pitman Rd. in Mantua, due to a commercial motor vehicle crash that resulted in a snapped utility pole.

🚧 The roadway is anticipated to be blocked into the evening as utility evaluation and restoration efforts have just gotten underway.

✅ No injuries were reported from the accident. County Hazmat crews assisted Mantua Township Fire Department with a minor spill. Please seek alternate routes as necessary.

Busy weekend/start of the week for your Mantua firefighters.

On Saturday, 10/17, Rescue and Utility 22 responded into Paulsboro for an injured worker on board a ported ship. Crews stood by as the confined space rescue team while the patient was removed from the ship.

Later that evening crews responded to a fully involved golf cart. The fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries.

On Sunday morning, 10/18, Rescue 22 responded into West Deptford for a working dwelling fire. Crews assisted interior crews with extinguishment and ventilation. No injuries reported.

On Sunday afternoon, 10/18, crews responded to the Port of Paulsboro for a reported ported ship with a fire on board. Rescue 22, Utility 22, and foam trailer responded and stood by. Crews stood by with confined space rescue equipment. The fire was extinguished without any injuries.

On Monday evening, 10/19, Rescue 22 responded into West Deptford for a working dwelling fire. Crews assisted interior crews with extinguishment, searches , and ventilation. No injuries reported.

Crews also handled multiple other incidents throughout town. We thank our mutual aid companies that provided coverage to the area while crews were working out of town, ensuring no delay in any response that may be needed.

NEW APPARATUS COMING TO MANTUA

Commissioner Jim Neely, Captain Dan Darnall, and Chief Brian Hauss recently traveled to Holden, Louisiana, to visit the US Fire Apparatus manufacturing facility to conduct the final inspection and take delivery of our new 2026 Kenworth Water Tender.

The new apparatus features a 3,000-gallon water tank and a 1,500 GPM fire pump, providing a significant increase in pumping capability over the apparatus it replaces.

The new tender will replace our 2009 International/Seagrave, which is equipped with a 3,000-gallon tank and 500 GPM pump after many years of service to our community.

In addition to its increased pumping capacity, the new Kenworth offers substantially more equipment storage and compartment space, allowing the apparatus to carry additional tools and equipment. These improvements will allow the tender to serve as our second-out apparatus, expanding its role beyond water supply and increasing the operational capabilities available to our firefighters.

We look forward to placing the new apparatus into service and continuing to invest in reliable, modern equipment that helps our firefighters safely and effectively serve the residents of Mantua Township.

Members attended the annual 9/11 commemoration ceremony at Chestnut Branch Park today. A quarter century later, and we will continue to never forget.

On Tuesday evening, 9/1/26, a severe storm moved through our area bringing damaging straight line winds causing significant damage throughout Mantua Township. Calls for service varied from trees into houses and buildings, wires down, trees in roadways, flooding, gas leaks, and poles and wires on fire. With the over whelming amount of calls that were coming in, OEM officials activated the Emergency Operations Center. A mandatory call back for career personnel was put in place as well. Overall, crews handled over 100 calls for service during the night of the storm and the following days. Gloucester County Fire Coordinators coordinated sending surrounding fire departments to our area that weren’t affected to assist with initial responses.

🔴🔴***IMPORTANT MESSAGE*** 🔴🔴

Our town has been severely effected by a severe thunderstorm this evening. Multiple trees and wires are down throughout the area. Multiple road closures are in effect as well. Please stay away from any down wire you may come across and dial 911 to report it. Crews have been working throughout the night and will continue clean up efforts at first light tomorrow morning. Please adhere to all road closures and do not drive around any barricades that have been placed on roadways.

⚡️Atlantic City Electric is aware of the multiple power outages and have crews responding to the area. There is no estimated time of restoration of electricity at this time.

⛔️The following roadways are currently CLOSED:

⛔️Bridgeton Pike between Mantua Blvd and Mt Royal Rd

⛔️Berkley Rd between Bridgeton Pike and Harrison Ave

⛔️Multiple side streets are also closed in residential neighborhoods.

⚠️Please work with us during this time as we work to clear roads and remove all hazards and stay off the roads if you don’t have to travel.

Crews are working throughout town for multiple trees and wires down from the storm. Please stay off the roadways and report any wires that are down by dialing 911.

🚧 Woodbury-Glassboro Road is closed from Center St. / Blackwood-Barnsboro to Salina Roads due to flooding from the Mantua Creek. Please seek alternate routes of travel.

Earlier this afternoon, Rescue 22 was dispatched to the area of Hickory Ave for reports of black smoke in the area. Chief 22 arrived to find a working dwelling with heavy fire showing from the rear. Rescue 22 arrived and went into service with multiple hand lines. The fire was quickly brought under control without any injuries to firefighters or civilians. The fire is currently under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshals Office. Thank you to all our mutual aid companies that assisted.
