It has been brought to our attention that some of our Theresa for Seymour campaign lawn signs have been taken around town, specifically on Bungay, Lantern, Tomlinson, North Benham and Buckingham. While it might seem like a small thing, these signs represent something bigger — our right to free expression and participation in the democratic process.

I’m asking everyone, regardless of which candidate you support, to please respect your neighbors’ property and their right to show their support. Seymour has always been a community that values fairness and respect — let’s continue to show that spirit through this election season.

If you notice any suspicious activity involving signs, please let our team or the Seymour Police Department know. Thank you to all the residents who have welcomed signs on their lawns and continue to support a positive, issue-focused campaign. We appreciate the tremendous support!

Part 2 of did you know? As a State Representative working for the residents of Seymour, Theresa Conroy secured $265,000 for the Davis-Pereiras Softball Field at Seymour High School. This money was used for overall improvements to the girls’ softball field as well as the installation of new lights. It is this type of pro-active progressive thinking that saves Seymour taxpayers money and proves that Theresa Conroy is “our best way forward”.

It's time to meet the candidates! First up is Theresa Conroy, running for First Selectwoman:

As a lifelong Seymour resident and current member of the Board of Selectmen, Theresa brings decades of knowledge, experience and compassion in her quest to become the next First Selectwoman of Seymour. Theresa previously served on the Board of Selectmen from 2011 to 2013. She is well versed on the tenacity, dedication and common sense it takes to provide a better quality of life for all Seymour residents.

As a State Representative for the 105th District (2009 to 2011 and 2013 to 2017), Theresa led legislative efforts to improve access to healthcare for underrepresented communities and was instrumental in leading legislative efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in Connecticut and was an early identifier of the increase in overdose trends. She successfully legislated for several bills, including providing first responders to be allowed to carry Narcan, increased Good Samaritan protection for reporters and responders and increased education among diverse populations. For Seymour directly, Theresa successfully secured funding to district for the Chatfield-LoPresti School, and for athletic field upgrades at the high school including turf, bleachers and lighting.

Theresa has been dedicated to making Seymour a better place to live. Past and current community involvement in town committees includes the Lions Club, Historical Society/Lifetime Member, Land Trust/Lifetime Member, Zoning Board of Appeals/Past Chair, Pumpkin Festival/Past President, Chatfield School PTA/Past President, Affordable Housing Partnership/Past Chair, and The Mikey Conroy Foundation/Board Director. On a broader level, Theresa has been involved with the Advance Care Planning Advisory Council for Griffin Hospital, the 1995 Special Olympics World Games Organization Committee and the Cardiostart International-Medical Mission to the Dominican Republic.

Following a 26-year career serving in CT’s Veterans Administration Healthcare System, Theresa retired as nurse manager for a 30-bed medical-telemetry unit and went on to a role as Nurse Manager at Middlesex Hospital, Family Nurse Practitioner Volunteer for The Health Collective, and ended her nursing career as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Minute Clinic.

Theresa’s family history is rooted deep within public service for the town of Seymour. Her father, Frank Conroy, served two terms as the First Selectman and dedicated countless hours to numerous town committees and organizations and was President of the Seymour Land Trust and was instrumental in the development of Legion Pool. Her mother, Anna Conroy, served on the Board of Education, Inland Wetland and Conservation Commission, the Housing Authority, Seymour Land Trust, Culture and Arts Commission, the Historical Society, the Pumpkin Festival and Christmas Parade Committees, Skokorat Area Civic Association, the 1975 Sesquicentennial Committee, and the 1975 Bicentennial Commission. In addition, she was President of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, Girl Scout Junior and Cadet Leader, Girl Scout Service Union Chairman Seymour/Oxford, and served as the Community Liaison for Shady Knoll.

As evidenced by the sheer volume of her accomplishments, Theresa is also a published author, including multiple articles related to her nursing career in addition to Images of America, Seymour, published by Arcadia Publishing in 2010.

Her professional affiliations include CT Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society, the American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Thau, Mu Chi Chapter.

In her three-term run as a State Representative Theresa Conroy secured $1.8 million dollars for the Seymour High School football field that included handicap-accessible bleachers, a turf field and a new track! She has always been working for Seymour and she will continue to do so when you vote for Theresa and her team on November 4th!

Mary Kruger – Democratic Candidate for Board of Finance Alternate!

Mary has been a proud resident of Seymour for more than 35 years. Drawn to the town’s bucolic setting, convenient location, and strong sense of community, she chose Seymour as the place to raise her family and build lasting connections. She and her family have actively participated in many of the community’s activities and events—experiences that have deepened her appreciation for the town and inspired her to give back. As a candidate for Board of Finance Alternate, she looks forward to helping ensure Seymour’s fiscal health while supporting the community spirit that first drew her here.

Mary earned a BS degree in Social Sciences, Community Organizing, and Secondary Education from the University of Bridgeport and began her career teaching Social Studies in the Bridgeport Public Schools. She also volunteered with the Derby Probation Department, providing mentorship to youthful offenders—a role that reflected her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Mary went on to spend ten years with Xerox Corporation as a Senior Account Representative, managing state, local, and federal government accounts in Fairfield County. This gave her valuable insight into government operations, fiscal budgeting, and cost efficiency—skills that will serve her well on the Board of Finance.

After earning a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Bridgeport, Mary assisted in developing a state-approved outpatient program for individuals with substance abuse issues, and later worked as a Family Therapist at Ga***rd Hospital’s Inpatient and Intensive Outpatient programs.

Recognizing a community need, Mary founded Rimmon Pond Counseling LLC in 1994, providing therapy services to individuals, couples, and families throughout Seymour and neighboring towns. For over 25 years, she served as a compassionate resource for those facing life’s challenges and was an active member of the Valley Domestic Violence Task Force, which united law enforcement, court officers, and social service providers to support victims and families.

In 2009, Mary joined the Connecticut Military Support Program, the first initiative of its kind in the United States, offering counseling and embedded clinicians to active and retired military personnel and their families. Although now retired from private practice, she continues to teach, train, and consult with other psychotherapists.

Mary brings to her candidacy a unique blend of fiscal understanding, community service, and compassion. She is eager to use her skills and experience to help maintain Seymour’s financial stability while ensuring it remains a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

James Amidon — Democratic Candidate for Board of Finance Alternate!

Originally from Oregon, James brings a fresh perspective and strong analytical skills to his candidacy for Seymour’s Board of Finance. A graduate of New York University, where he met his wife, James has called Connecticut home for the past nine years—settling in Seymour last year to raise a family and build lasting community roots.

Professionally, James has developed a deep background in finance and technology. He spent several years with Subway, where he advanced through progressive roles to become a Lead EPMO Analyst, overseeing intake and budgeting for more than $50 million in IT projects. For the past five years, he has worked at Newman’s Own, where he manages enterprise applications and systems integration alongside the entire project portfolio.

Beyond his professional life, James is a dedicated community volunteer. He has served as a Pop Warner football coach with the West Haven Seahawks for the past three years and annually volunteers as a judge at the Connecticut DECA State Conference, helping mentor the next generation of business leaders.

Analytical, inquisitive, and community-focused, James is committed to asking the tough questions and ensuring transparency in town finances. He wants to put his expertise to work to help make Seymour a more affordable, sustainable, and valuable place for families to call home.

Mike Flynn – Democratic Candidate for Board of Finance Alternate

Mike brings a lifetime of community involvement, public service, and deep local roots to his candidacy for the Seymour Board of Finance Alternate. Born in Derby to the late Eileen Hennessy and Charles H. Flynn, Mike was raised in a family deeply committed to civic engagement and public communication. His mother was a reporter for the Ansonia Evening Sentinel, while his father served as city editor and later became the oldest member of the Associated Press at the time of his passing in 1969.

His brother, Joseph Flynn, also carried on the family’s legacy of service as Corporation Counsel for Seymour under First Selectman Paul Pawlak and as a state legislator, where he authored key labor and environmental legislation.

A graduate of Ansonia High School’s Class of 1966, Mike served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. Following his service, he pursued his passion for the arts, studying under Professor Dominic Petro at Post College, where he earned an Associate Degree in 1977.
In addition to that degree, Mike also holds a BS in Fine Arts & History from Southern Connecticut State College. Mike’s artwork has been displayed at both the Seymour and Bethany public libraries. Between 1990 and Mike also worked with children with disabilities.

Mike has long been active in Seymour’s civic and political life. From 1973 to 1995, he was a dedicated member of the Seymour Democratic Town Committee, contributing to numerous local campaigns and supporting community leaders such as Anna LoPresti, Carl Trybus, Bill Natowicz, and Ron Skurat.

With decades of community experience and a strong sense of public responsibility, Mike Flynn is committed to ensuring Seymour’s financial stability, transparency, and growth for future generations.
