Every time I go through another box at my grandparents’ house, it feels like I uncover another little piece of our family’s story.

Today I found a photograph of my great-grandfather, Arvel Weckar, and my great-grandmother, Francis Weckar. Tucked safely behind it was something I never expected to find—their original marriage certificate.

Seeing their names written on that old paper and knowing they were married in Benjamin, Texas, made my heart smile. It’s amazing how something that sat quietly in a box for so many years can suddenly bring people and memories back to life.

These little discoveries remind me why preserving this old house means so much. Every room, every drawer, and every dusty box holds another chapter of the family that came before me. I can’t wait to see what story I’ll uncover next. ❤️

Today really feels like my grandma is still whispering, “Don’t worry, baby… I’m still rooting for you. Keep going. You’ve got this.”

I’ve been looking for a small refrigerator for our porch bakery so I wouldn’t have to worry so much about the Texas heat. Today I was over at my grandparents’ house and noticed an old mini fridge sitting on the back porch. It looked like it had definitely seen better days, but I thought, “Maybe… just maybe.”

I plugged it in, waited a little while, and when I opened the door and reached inside, it was ice cold.

The moment I felt that cold air, I just started bawling.

My grandma was the kind of person who never let someone go without if she could help it. If she knew you needed something, she’d somehow find a way to show up with exactly what you needed. That was just who she was.

I know she’s been gone for two years, and there isn’t a single day that I don’t miss her. But today, standing on that back porch with tears running down my face, it felt like she was still taking care of me.

Maybe it was just an old refrigerator.

Or maybe it was one more reminder that the love someone leaves behind never really disappears.

Today, it felt like she was telling me, “You’ve got this, baby.”

And for the first time in a while… I believed it. 🤍

Today was such a good day. ❤️

Thank you to every single person who placed a kolache order this week. Because of your support, we were able to raise a little over $200 to put toward restoring my grandparents’ home and replacing the roof.

Every box of kolaches is so much more than fresh bread and sweet fillings. It’s helping preserve a home that’s filled with generations of memories, recipes, laughter, and love. Being able to share the recipes my grandparents cherished while helping save the place they called home means more to me than I can put into words.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in this little porch bakery and in this dream. Every order, every share, and every kind word gets us one step closer.

I can’t wait to bake for y’all again. ❤️

Well… today definitely wasn’t on the schedule.

It looks like one of the big trees at the house was struck by lightning during the recent storms, and a massive branch came crashing down. We’ll be spending the next little while cutting it up, hauling it off, and getting everything cleaned up.

The storms also found a few weak spots in this old house, and we ended up with some minor flooding inside. Nothing we can’t tackle, but it’s another reminder that restoring a home that’s been standing for generations is a journey filled with unexpected challenges.

Some days it feels like every time we make progress, something else needs attention. But this old place has weathered so much over the years, and we’re not giving up on it. We’ll clean it up, keep moving forward, and keep preserving the home that means so much to our family.

Thank you all for following along, encouraging us, and cheering this old house on. It truly means more than you know. ❤️

Today I found something that stopped me in my tracks.

My grandmother’s wedding dress.

The very dress she wore when she was only 16 years old.

I just sat there holding it, wishing for one more conversation. One more chance to ask her what that day was like. Was she excited? Was she nervous? What did she dream her future would look like? What made her smile as she put this dress on?

Those questions will never be answered now.

Grief has a way of reminding you that it’s not always the big things you miss. Sometimes it’s the stories you’ll never get to hear.

As I’ve been going through my grandparents’ home, I’ve realized I’m not just finding old belongings. I’m finding pieces of people I love. Every photograph, every handwritten note, every Bible, and now this dress… they’re all quietly telling the story they left behind.

I miss her so much. But today, for just a moment, it felt like she was close. Like this dress had waited all these years to remind me that love doesn’t disappear—it lingers in the things we leave behind and in the people who remember.

I’d give anything to hear her tell me about the day she wore this dress. Since I can’t, I’ll treasure it, protect it, and carry her story forward the best I know how. ❤️
