The kitten rescued by our firefighters has officially been adopted by a new momma and is doing great! We're told this little one loves to hide, play, and keep everyone guessing where it disappeared to next.

Now we need your help choosing a name! We're down to two finalists:

June is here, and with it comes warmer weather, family gatherings, outdoor activities, and summer travel.

As you enjoy everything the season has to offer, Shadeland Fire Department encourages everyone to keep safety in mind. Check your smoke alarms, practice fire safety around grills and fire pits, stay hydrated during hot weather, and always use caution around water.

Our volunteers are proud to serve this community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We wish everyone a safe, fun, and memorable start to summer!

This afternoon, Shadeland Fire Department was dispatched to assist with a kitten trapped beneath a residence. Upon arrival, crews discovered a gray kitten stuck approximately three feet down inside a well pipe.

Using a handicap grabber tool and plenty of patience, firefighters were able to safely lift the kitten from the pipe. The kitten was cold, wet, and exhausted, but thankfully unharmed and relieved to be back on solid ground.

We’re happy to report the story has an even better ending — Firefighter Christensen has adopted the kitten and is now providing it with a warm and caring home.
