Rescue swimmer training was a huge success this past weekend. We had both FB19 & FB41 as well as one of our smaller rescue boats (Bt23) from our Jones Station (Co.23).

Commissioning week is always busy for our marine division and this year was no different. We typically staff 5-6 boats all outfitted with rescue swimmers or divers with a full complement of suppression and/or EMS equipment.
This year we had 3 fire boats (4 if you include Annapolis city fire) 3 of which had paramedics, divers and/or rescue swimmers on board, as well as 2 fast response rescue boats with divers and rescue swimmers. We also had a huge compliment of other vessels from our other local MIRT partner agencies including but not limited to Annapolis Professional Firefighters Local 1926 , U.S. Coast Guard Station Annapolis, Maryland, Annapolis Police Department, Anne Arundel County Police Department, MCCU - 1 Anne Arundel Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Annapolis Harbor Master, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region, United States Naval Academy all of which had their own unique capabilities and areas of responsibility.
Needless to say there is an extreme amount of organization between jurisdictions. This multi organizational effort is nothing short of amazing to be included in.

Bridge Closure & Boater Reminders

Reminder! On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Naval Academy Bridge (Taylor Avenue) over the Severn River will close from approximately 10:45 a.m. to approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday for Blue Angels arrival, demonstration, and air show. Please be alert to detours and use the Route 50 bridge if you need to get back and forth tomorrow and Wednesday. Follow Anne Arundel County Police direction on the county side and follow Annapolis Police direction on the City side.

For boaters who want to watch the Blue Angels from Spa Creek, Severn River, or the Chesapeake Bay: expect heavy marine traffic and pay attention to temporary channel markers (red and green buoys) and officials enforcing restricted zones. The temporary channel MUST be kept clear of anchored boats throughout the duration of the shows. You will be moved if you are anchored in this zone.

On Tuesday, the restricted zone will close to all unauthorized boat traffic beginning at 10:30 a.m. Around 4 p.m., the Severn River will reopen to all vessel traffic.

On Wednesday, the restricted zone will close to all unauthorized boat traffic beginning at 1:30 p.m. and will reopen to vessel traffic around 4 p.m.

You never know where you might end up or where the next call takes you. The best thing we can do is be ready and that is why we spend so much time training.

📄PRESS RELEASE📄
PFANJ MOURNS THE TRAGIC LINE OF DUTY DEATH OF VETERAN CAMDEN FIREFIGHTER

🚒 "Today, the city of Camden and the entire state of New Jersey lost a hero. This tragedy is a stark and painful reminder that the dangers of this profession do not only exist within a burning building. Our members put their lives on the line every single day,“ proclaimed Mathew Caliente, PFANJ President. “We are devastated by the loss of Brother [Howard] Bennett who dedicated his life to protecting the residents of Camden. Our hearts, our prayers, and our full support are with his family, his friends, and the members of CFD Local 788 Firefighters Union and Camden Fire Officers Local #2578 during this unimaginably difficult time."

🫂 The PFANJ is working closely with our International Association of Fire Fighters locals to ensure the family and the department have every resource necessary as they navigate this profound loss. Peer support resources have been on the ground in Camden since early afternoon to assist our members who are grieving, and station coverage is being led by departments who make up Camden County IAFF Local 3249 to give our members who were on duty the time to cope with this tragedy.
