Captain Avery Museum

Captain Avery Museum Interpreting three centuries of Chesapeake Bay history. The grounds are open all year, dawn til dusk. Leashed pets are welcome! Please clean up after all pets.

HOURS OF OPERATION
The house museum is open to the public by appointment only and during special events throughout the year. PROPERTY & GROUNDS
On the National Register of Historic Places, the Captain Avery Museum was once the 19th century home of a waterman and his family. Over three centuries, this house has borne witness to social, cultural and environmental changes. It has been renovated, expa

nded upon, and even moved from its original plot. We sit on the Shady Side Peninsula in southern Anne Arundel County, nestled along the banks of the West River. We invite you to enjoy the beauty of our rain gardens, outdoor exhibits, and sweeping view of the Chesapeake Bay without disrupting the natural processes taking place.
