We want to give a massive shoutout to Nga and Cameron from FM's Plymouth office for visiting Station #1 on Wednesday! Their team awarded the Shakopee Fire Department the FM Fire Service grant, which we've used to purchase iPads for our rigs.

Now, when our crews roll up to an emergency, Operation Command can instantly access vital pre-planning software right from the field. Knowing the exact location of hydrants, key boxes, and hazardous materials before we arrive saves valuable seconds when it matters most.

Thank you, Factory Mutual Insurance Company, for investing in the safety of Shakopee’s residents, visitors, and businesses! 🤝✨

❤️ EMS WEEK PART 3: What This Means For You 🚑

Every single hour of training we put into these new certifications directly benefits you. By expanding our EMTs' skill sets, we are bringing high-acuity interventions right to your doorstep.

Because our department does not transport, these seconds are vital.

These advanced credentials mean that from the very first moments we arrive on scene, we can initiate aggressive, life-saving care for cardiac, diabetic, and respiratory emergencies while paramedic transport is still en route.

We are minimizing delays, maximizing safety, and ensuring our community gets the highest level of care when every second counts. Thank you for your support as we continue to grow for you! ⏱️💪

🚀 EMS WEEK PART 2: Leveling Up Our Capabilities 🚑

We never stop training. To elevate our response capabilities, our department is doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes right now—updating standing orders, procuring new equipment, and undergoing specialized training for three major clinical advancements:

🦴 Intraosseous (I/O) Access & Epinephrine: Training EMTs to use a mechanical drill for immediate bone-marrow access during cardiac arrests, allowing us to deliver life-saving Epinephrine when a traditional IV isn't possible.

💊 Expanded Nitroglycerin Protocols: Moving beyond just assisting patients with their own prescriptions to allowing our EMTs to carry and independently administer Sublingual Nitroglycerin for suspected cardiac chest pain.

🩸 Glucagon for Diabetics: Adding Glucagon to our kits as a critical backup to save patients suffering from severe low blood sugar who cannot safely swallow.

Our team is putting in the hours to bring these advanced capabilities to the field. Check back tomorrow to see exactly what this means for you when you call 911! 👇

🚒 EMS WEEK PART 1: The Foundation of Care 🚑

Following up on our post yesterday, we want to share exactly what your Shakopee Fire EMTs can do the moment they arrive on scene. Under our current medical direction, our team is already fully equipped and authorized to utilize critical, life-saving interventions:

🌬️ Advanced Respiratory Support: Utilizing CPAP to help patients in severe respiratory distress breathe easier and avoid invasive procedures.

❤️ Cardiac Care: Administering Aspirin (ASA) immediately to patients showing signs of a heart attack to protect their heart muscle.

💨 Breathing Treatments: Providing nebulized Albuterol and Atrovent to quickly reverse severe asthma or COPD flare-ups.

🛡️ Allergy & Overdose Response: Administering Epinephrine for life-threatening allergic reactions and Naloxone (Narcan) to reverse opioid overdoses.

We are proud of the aggressive care we provide from second one—but we are always looking to do more. Tune in tomorrow to see the new advanced capabilities we are actively building!
