We're happy to introduce SPU team member, Reid Larson.

Before finding his fit as a Purchasing Specialist for SPU in 2023, Reid took a dynamic path through the health and wellness field and even pursued further studies in occupational therapy. Clearly a “people-person”, his natural ability to connect with others make him highly effective in his current role.

At SPU, Reid collaborates with every department and utilizes his approachable personality to negotiate with vendors or secure expedited deliveries. He enjoys the balance between hands-on tasks in the warehouse and vendor purchasing responsibilities at his desk. No two days are the same!

Living and raising a family right here in Shakopee, he values the work-life balance SPU offers. As well as “the great people, a sense of purpose and a chance to make a difference where you live.”

In celebration of our commemorative year as a utility, we'd like you to get to know the current people behind the scenes keeping your power on and your water flowing.

We're happy to introduce SPU team member, Mariah Skelly.

Mariah joined SPU fresh out of college and ready to go! She was looking for an opportunity to apply what she had learned in school in a meaningful way, and SPU's mission and commitment to serving the community really stood out to her.

She began her career with SPU in 2024 as a Customer Service and Billing Rep. In early 2025 she stepped up and became the Billing Lead, responsible for the processing and accuracy of the monthly billing statements. Mariah enjoys the problem-solving aspect of the role, staying organized, and making sure everything runs smoothly for our customers. "It’s rewarding to know that the work I do has a direct impact on the people we serve."

Mariah lives with her husband and their puppy, Mabel.

✔️ If your address ends in an even number, water on even-numbered days only.
✔️ If your address ends in an odd number, water on odd-numbered days only.

A little planning goes a long way in protecting our water resources while keeping your lawn healthy all season long.

We're happy to introduce SPU team member, Gabe Reiter.

Gabe took the road less traveled to local government. As a graduate of Carlson School of Management, he pursued several artistic business ventures before embarking on a cross-country move in 2020 with his new family, starting a YouTube channel renovating a cabin in the Ozark Mountains.

In 2022, Gabe moved his family back to MN. After joining SPU that same year, he relocated to Shakopee and happily calls it home for his now-expanded family. He loves living locally!

Gabe joined SPU as a Purchasing Specialist and then moved to Accounting where he was soon promoted to his current position of Accounting Supervisor. Working in local government fosters his passion for solving complex puzzles and driving efficiency. His greatest sense of accomplishment and motivation is having the honor of providing for his family every day.

Clean water. Trusted service. Community commitment

We're proud to share our 2025 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), providing a transparent look at the quality of your drinking water and the work we do every day to keep it safe, reliable, and flowing to your tap.

In this report, you can see how your water meets or exceeds federal and state drinking water standards, learn where your water comes from, and find important information about lead and galvanized steel plumbing. If your home has a lead or galvanized water service line, SPU will replace it at no cost to you.

We're happy to introduce SPU team member, Sydney Lenzmeier.

Employees are known for wearing many hats at SPU and Sydney is no exception! She joined SPU in 2024 as a Project Accountant where she stepped in and quickly excelled in her position. In early 2026 she accepted a newly created position serving Human Resources, Accounting and our General Manager.

In this new role, Sydney is able to apply her previous payroll and project management experience to the variety of new tasks she's responsible for in this position.

She enjoys the teamwork and collaboration, and likes working with like-minded people - "trying to do our best in the work we do and being supportive/dependable for our coworkers and the community."

For Sydney, the best part of working at SPU is serving the community she grew up in. Shakopee has been - and still is - the place she calls home.

In celebration of our commemorative year as a utility, we'd like you to get to know the current people behind the scenes keeping your power on and your water flowing.

We're happy to introduce SPU team member, Lyle Nagel.

Lyle joined SPU just four months after graduating from NDSU in 2021 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He jumped into his role as an Engineering Project Coordinator with both feet and has become our solar expert.

Lyle loves the project-based aspect of his job - especially when he can show his family and friends new businesses or developments, saying “I did that”! His greatest satisfaction at SPU is seeing his daily impact on his community and feeling proud of what he does.

Lyle is a lifelong Shakopee resident (go Class of 2016!) and currently lives with his dog, Chief.
