The Shallotte Center enjoyed the American Heritage Girls Troop 0730 and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare joining together & coming out to teach participants how to create mod podge plates. It was awesome seeing creativity blossom among the various ages that filled the room. That's when ✨magic✨ happens!

Check out what's coming up this month at the Shallotte Center👇

Caregiving can be overwhelming & frightening for most, but it doesn't have to be with the right support & resources presented & available to you🫂

We would like to inform you of a new program, known as the Caregiver Mentorship Program, led by UNCW students who are supervised by Dr. Tina Newsham, who is the Professor & Gerontology Program Coordinator. The program is also co-sponsored by Cape Fear Area Agency on Aging.

Hear from Dr. Newsham & learn more about what to expect by watching the 4 minute video at the link below:

Those leading the program are looking for experienced Caregivers who would be willing to mentor others, as well as those who are looking to be mentored by those with caregiving experience. If this is something you'd like to be a part of, head on over to the application provided at the link below:

The Waccamaw-Ash Center are delighted for their new partnership with the Feast Down East Mobile Farmer’s Market! They set up shop at the center for the first time this week, bringing local produce and other goodies. 🥬🌾

Many of our participants were able to snag lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, from strawberries, sweet potatoes, and purple cabbage, to great staple pantry items like honey and local looseleaf tea. Thank you Feast Down East for stopping by and bringing the farmer’s market to our participants, we are very grateful to have you! 🍓

⭐Learn more about the mobile market including where they will be & when, the food prescription program with Novant Health, & how you can use your EBT to purchase these local goods: https://www.feastdowneast.org/local-motive-mobile-farmers-market/

Fitness is paramount to keeping our participants healthy and active! We encourage you to join the 89% who reported senior center fitness programs improving their physical health 💪🏋️🧘🏽‍♀️🥁

The CDC recommends every week, adults 65 and older need aerobic physical activity that includes:
- At least 150 minutes at moderate intensity. This could be 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
- Or 75 minutes at vigorous intensity.
- Or an equivalent combination at moderate and vigorous intensity.
- At least 2 days of activities that strengthen muscles and to improve balance.

The Brunswick Center at Southport offers a wide variety of classes to get folks moving — from Yoga and Chair Yoga to Geri‑Fit, Boxing, and Tai Chi. There’s something for every fitness level and interest.

We’re thrilled to announce two new programs joining the Southport Center calendar:
🔸Fit and Fabulous – Wednesdays at 9:30 AM
Led by our fitness volunteer Denise, this class helps participants get more out of their workouts while taking the mystery (and misery!) out of using our fitness room and equipment. Fit and Fabulous is a mini circuit session that has you using several of our exercise machines. Work at your own pace and your own fitness level.

🔸Drum Fitness – Thursdays at 2:00 PM
A fun, high‑energy way to find your groove and get fit at the same time! Using low impact exercise balls as your drums. Do as much or as little as you feel. It's a great low impact cardio workout.

No matter your fitness level, there’s always a program at one of our Coastal Carolina Active Living (CCAL) Centers to help you feel better, move more, and enjoy living a fit lifestyle.

Come join the fun and fitness!

On Monday, June 1st the Brunswick Center at Leland invites the community to come out & join them in saving lives❣️

The Center is proud to partner with the American Red Cross for their first Blood Drive. Each pint of blood collected can help save up to THREE lives and will touch the lives of so many more.

You may schedule your appointment in 1 of 2 ways:
🩸 Call the Center at (910) 754-7701
🩸 Visit the following link to create an account/sign in and schedule your time slot. Leland's zip code is 28451:
https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/donation-time?zipSponsor=28451&driveType=all

⭐Please Note: The "Power Red" option when scheduling your appointment means that you would like to try and donate 2 units of blood, rather than 1. This process can take about 1.5 hours. There are strict requirements: age, weight, and height minimums, as well as a higher iron level than standard whole blood donation.

We hope to see you on Monday, June 1st!
