With winter weather well underway, we want to remind residents of a few common cold-weather hazards we commonly respond to this time of year:
🧊 Slips & Falls
Ice-covered walkways and driveways are a major cause of recent calls. Take your time, use sand or ice melt when possible, and wear footwear with good traction.
🔥 Carbon Monoxide Safety
Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are present and functioning. Never run vehicles, generators, or fuel-powered equipment inside homes, garages, or near windows. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, contact emergency services so responders can assess the situation.
🥶 Cold Exposure & Hypothermia
Dress in layers, limit time outdoors during extreme cold, and check on elderly neighbors and family members. Cold related illness can happen faster than many people realize.
🚑 Help Us Help You
Keep house numbers visible and driveways clear when possible so emergency vehicles can quickly find and access your home.
If you’re ever unsure whether something is an emergency, don’t hesitate to call. Please do NOT call the station directly for service requests!
