Summer and drivers education season is here! Once your new driver has completed their drivers education course, our office can issue their first driving credential! Please call the office to get scheduled, as all licenses are done by appointment. In the meantime, you can help your young driver prepare by using this time to round up the required documents. This will expedite the process.

All applicants must provide the following:
- State issued, certified birth certificate OR current US passport.
- Social Security Card.
- 2 proofs of PHYSICAL, street address in the parent OR applicant's name. Examples include but are not limited to school transcripts, utility bills, bank statements. Junk mail cannot be used and all documents must be taken out of envelopes to be scanned. If the parent's document is used, we will also ask for their drivers license.
- Signed parental consent form.
- Any legal name change document if the applicant's name is now different than that reflected on their birth certificate.

Additionally, if the applicant is applying for a Farm Permit, they must provide the Farm Permit Affidavit - either signed by a the farmer parent or farm employer. For more information on this, please call our office.

For those not taking drivers education, please contact the Colby Full Service Office to schedule your appointment, as written & skills tests will be required. Appointments at Colby will also be required for those not residing in Wallace County.

‼️SCAM ALERT‼️

We have been made aware of a new text message scam in which scammers impersonate the Kansas Division of Vehicles (DOV). These messages falsely claim that the recipient has outstanding traffic violations in an attempt to steal personal or financial information.

Please note: The DOV will never send unsolicited text messages regarding fines, toll fees, payments, or violations.

What to Do if You Receive a Scam Message
• Do not click any links in the message.
• Do not provide personal or payment information.
• Delete the message immediately.

If you receive a text you believe is a scam, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

Fraudsters frequently change tactics to exploit unsuspecting individuals and often try to create a sense of urgency. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from scams. If you have questions about your driving record, please contact the Kansas DOV.

It has come to our attention that many of you have received your heavy truck & trailer renewals. They were mailed out from the state printer early and unfortunately are unable to be processed until after January 1st.

You are welcome to mail them in to be held until after 1/1/2026 or to come see us after the New Year and we’ll be happy to take care of them for you.

***UPDATE***
After subcontractors were onsite yesterday to fix state line issues, our systems are back up and working. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we all waited for connectivity issues to be resolved. If you must come to town, please travel carefully. We will be open until 4:00 today, and open 8:00-4:00 tomorrow.

The State of KS reached out to our office yesterday notifying us that they detected connectivity issues with our location. As of this morning, those issues are still unresolved - and involves AT&T and possibly another area service provider.

What that means for us...
We are unable to process and drivers license or motor vehicle transactions until this is resolved. As soon as we have information and are fully operational again, we will update this post.

We apologize for the tremendous inconvenience this creates and thank you for your patience as we await a fix.yg srkerrowdines
