Sharon Fire and Rescue

Sharon Fire and Rescue Sharon F/R has joined FB to communicate with the Residents of the Town and Village of Sharon and Boone Fire District #4 in Illinois which we proudly serve.

Sharon Fire & Rescue proudly protects the citizens of the Village and Township of Sharon and Boone County Fire Protection District #4 over a 54 square mile first due response area. Our department is staffed by well trained and skilled Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) working hard to provide the finest service 24/7 when you need us. Sharon Fire & Rescue is staffed with 36 paid-o

n-call/volunteer members all responding from home or work. We operate as one department providing both Fire & EMS (Emergency Medical Service), most members are cross-trained in both fields and all members respond to calls. We provide EMS to the Wisconsin EMT-Basic IV Tech Level and transport to several area medical centers. We work very hard to maintain excellent records, apparatus and improve our skills through training. Dedication along with the financial support of our community helps maintain a department that is ready to respond. Because of these factors Sharon Fire & Rescue proudly maintains an ISO rating of 4/7.

Our thoughts are with the family of DC Derrick and the City of Lake Geneva Fire Department.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Lake Geneva Fire Department Deputy Chief Daniel T. Derrick, who left us this afternoon. He is pictured here with his two sons.

Chief Derrick devoted 54 years of his life to serving others, beginning his career with the Lake Geneva Fire Department on January 4, 1972. As a second-generation firefighter, service was more than a profession for Dan—it was a calling rooted in family, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Throughout his distinguished career, Chief Derrick played a vital role in shaping our department and advancing public safety in Lake Geneva and the surrounding area. He was instrumental in the development and organization of our Emergency Medical Services system, helping bring essential pre-hospital care to our residents and visitors. His vision and leadership established a foundation that continues to save lives every day.

Beyond his many accomplishments, Dan was a mentor, a steady presence, and a trusted leader. He exemplified quiet strength, integrity, and genuine care for those he served alongside. His influence lives on through the generations of firefighters and EMS providers he guided, taught, and inspired.

Today, we mourn the loss of a respected leader, a dedicated public servant, and a dear friend. His legacy endures in the department he helped build and in the countless lives he touched throughout his years of service.

Funeral services are pending, and further information will be shared as it becomes available.

Please keep the Derrick family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Respectfully,

Chief Peters

Get to Know our Trucks!!

People are our most important resource – but we cannot do our jobs without well planned and built apparatus that is reliable and ready to respond.
This week we profile Tanker/Tender 401/4030. The senior member of the fleet. It was built by US Tanker in Burlington WI. There is a connection between this company and Sharon Fire & Rescue. The founding owner of US Tanker, Joe Lee grew up in Sharon and was a member of Sharon Fire & Rescue which was the impetus to start his own apparatus manufacturing firm. Sharon F&R was updating from a small 1250-gallon tanker to a truck of this size and US Tanker was chosen to build it. During board approval a board member concerned about spending, stated that “this better not be one of those shiny parade trucks”. Joe Lee quickly replied, “it won’t be one of those shiny parade trucks, IT WILL BE THE SHINIEST TRUCK IN THE PARADE”. To say we got a good deal would be an understatement. What we ordered and what we received were different. It came with an upgraded chassis, all stainless body construction, poly tank and plenty of shiny chrome due to his pride in his company and his hometown. It is a sweet ride!

Back to business. Ordered in 1999 and delivered in July of 2000 just in time for the July 4th parade (lol) it glides on a Peterbilt 377 chassis and is powered by a Cat 14.6-liter big block with 450 hp (it feels like more). It has carries 4000 gallons of water in the first elliptical tank built by UPF and a stainless-steel outer wrap. If you have a rural fire and you have run out of water, this twin stacked beast is an awesome site pulling up on scene. On the passenger side it carries a 4000-gallon porta-tank (we call it the Duck Pond) while we can dump the whole load it sometimes is a challenge to make it fit on the roadway. The tank rack is manually lowered unlike modern electric racks; therefore it takes several personnel to deploy the tank. It comes equipped with gas driven pump that can pump 400 gallons per minute allowing the tender to nurse feed an engine, fight a grass fire, if need be, or assist at a structure fire. It carries two hard sleeves in the back used for jet siphon operations with multiple tanks. Other equipment includes a 200’ foot attack line and assorted hoses for transfer and filling. Sharon Fire & Rescue prides itself on rural water movement, drilling on rapid deployment and moving “Big Water” when its needed. Sharon and Darien Fire/EMS combined have 16,700 gallons of water on wheels for an initial response.

Tanker/Tender 401 recently underwent some major structural surgery having its frame replaced due to corrosion. Surgery and recovery went well and should last at least another decade before retirement. We have slowly updated emergency lighting, radios and it’s vertical twin exhaust stacks were neutered in 2022 to side exhaust to hook up to the station exhaust system – it was a sad day.

T401 may be old but it performs its duty very well, hauling water fast and efficiently! You Call, We Haul!

Do you like trucks and want to get to know Tender 401? Do you like working with a team? Interested in Fire/EMS? We would love to talk with you about serving on Sharon Fire & Rescue just message us!

Good luck to one of our Sharon Fire & Rescue volunteers as she starts Fire 1 today! 🚒🔥
We’re proud to see you taking on this challenge and continuing to grow in the fire service. It takes dedication, heart, and a little bit of craziness to willingly sign up for carrying heavy equipment and memorizing fire behavior for fun. 😂
We know you’re going to do great. Work hard, stay confident, and remember — the entire department is rooting for you!
