Sharon Volunteer Fire Department SC

Sharon Volunteer Fire Department SC SVFD is a group of unpaid community members who want to reach out and help Sharon and the surrounding areas, especially during times of crisis.

In 1950 Sharon Fire Department was established, when the town housed one fire engine in the store building which is presently Town Hall. In 1958 the Fire Department building was constructed and a second truck acquired. Around 1980-1982 an additional bay was added to house a third truck. In 1986 standard protective clothing was purchased for the 26 members with funds the Department had raised along

with a matched donation from the town. In 2016, Station 2 on Hord Road was completed. The station serves families and businesses within the western side of Sharon. Oliver Dowdle--Chief

SC Forestry Commission to issue statewide burning ban; restriction on all outdoor burning goes into effect at 7 a.m. Friday

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective at 7 a.m. Friday, April 17.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.

Forestry Commission officials cite a particularly dangerous mix of elevated wildfire risk factors through the weekend that warrant limiting all ignitions in the interest of public safety.

Rapidly escalating drought conditions across the state, a critical decrease in relative humidities over the next several days and gusty winds that are expected to accompany an approaching cold front will combine to create extreme fire danger.

"When it’s this dry – energy release component values are at high-to-critical levels – we’re just as likely, if not more, to see wildfires that are fuel-driven rather than wind-driven. Add the other volatile conditions of increased wind and lower relative humidity, and it becomes an especially precarious situation,” said SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones. "These conditions not only increase the likelihood of wildfires igniting easily and spreading rapidly, but would also make them more difficult for firefighters to control.”

While the ban does not apply to fires used for the preparation of food or fires used in appropriate enclosures (portable outdoor fireplaces, chimineas or permanent fire pits constructed of stone, masonry, metal or other noncombustible material that conforms with all applicable South Carolina fire codes), Forestry Commission officials urge the utmost caution burning outdoors under these exemptions.

Likewise, citizens should exercise extreme vigilance operating any equipment that could create sparks, avoid parking on dry grass and refrain from using fireworks.

The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.

In Memory of Dale Inman
Sharon Fire Department mourns the loss of longtime member Dale Inman, who passed away last night. Dale dedicated an impressive 42 years of service to the department, faithfully supporting both his fellow firefighters and the larger community throughout his tenure.
During his many years with the department, Dale wore several important hats. He served as the department Chaplain, offering spiritual guidance and comfort to those in need. He was also instrumental in organizing and assisting with numerous fundraising efforts, helping to ensure the department had the resources it needed. Dale's commitment extended to answering countless fire calls, always ready to lend a helping hand whenever duty called.
To those who knew him, Dale was more than just a colleague—he was a true friend and brother. His infectious laugh, sharp wit, and uplifting humor brightened the lives of everyone around him. Dale's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Until we meet again, rest in peace, Dale.

With profound sadness, we share that on December 11, 2025, our lives changed forever.

While traveling for work related to public safety and emergency warning systems, our colleagues Tom Diener, Carter Haen, and Robbie Betts were involved in a tragic highway incident in Indiana.

Tom Diener lost his life as a result of the crash. Tom was a dedicated firefighter, volunteer public servant, and business owner whose work centered on protecting communities through emergency warning systems. He proudly served as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Oshkosh Fire Department and as a Lieutenant with the Town of Sheboygan Fire Department. His loss is profound and felt deeply by his family, friends, coworkers, and the fire service communities he so faithfully served.

We hold Carter and Robbie close in our hearts as they navigate the days ahead, and we are wrapping Tom’s family and loved ones in our deepest sympathy. We ask our community to keep them all in your thoughts and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

In the days to come, we will honor Tom’s legacy by continuing our unwavering commitment to public safety and the work he believed in.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
