Highway Maintenance of Sharon's 83.54 miles of town roads is performed under the supervision of the First Selectman and the Road Foreman. Responsibilities include snow removal, road paving, repair and maintenance, installation and maintenance of signs. Approximately one-third of the funds required are provided by the State, while the balance comes from town taxes. Major State highways that run thr

ough Sharon are maintained by the State of Connecticut Highway Systems.

We're replacing a drainage pipe on West Woods Road #1 today from (roughly) 10am to 2pm. Location is #122 West Woods Road #1. Traffic help has been placed on either side of the road to help direct people/inform people.

The effort/plan (that started in 2014/15) is to replace all the failed or failing metal pipes around Town with long term hard plastic pipes and we're almost done.

Crack sealing season is here! Fairchild Road is done and now it is on to Jewett Hill Rd./Calkinstown Rd./Williams Rd./Still Meadow Rd./West Cornwall Rd.

Next year we will chip seal them. This is how we keep roads together and taxes low.

The Low Road drainage pipe that crosses at Grandview Lane will be replaced tomorrow (Friday). Expect delays and detours. We'll update when we're done.

Here are the partials:
South Ellsworth, Smith Hill, Modley, West Woods 1. & 2, old Sharon #2, Dawn Hill, Tichnor, Sharon Mnt.

Partials are passable but narrow.

We are heading in now. There wasn't much rest for us overnight and we worked through lunch today. We will be back out in the early morning to push back snowdrifts and widen gravel roads.

The gravel roads are currently narrow so only travel them if necessary.

We are presently in the "calm before the Storm" but we do have a plan in place. We will be pre-treating town roads with a salt/sand mixture in about an hour and then heading home to rest up for the overnight battle. It is unclear how much will fall (estimates run from 8" to 20") but we will be out overnight to make sure that in the worst-case scenario that town roads are passable in the morning.

Butter Rd. work is complete so we’ll be heading back to Herb Rd. tomorrow morning. Work will take place at #21 Herb Rd.

Herb Road drainage improvements continue today below #60 Herb Road starting at 9am. We have road plates to get people in and out if necessary.
