Come and meet our new mascot and animal ambassador, Murf! Murf is an Eastern Box Turtle who's here to educate others about his species and why you should care about turtles. After reading a story about a box turtle, participants will listen to a short natural history presentation and then get an opportunity to ask questions. They will see Murf up close and may also get a chance to touch his shell! An optional worksheet is provided for participants to fill out during the presentation.

Do you know what to do if you find orphaned or injured wildlife?

One of our staff members found this Great Horned Owl caught in a soccer net over the weekend. Luckily, they were able to free the owl and get it to a licensed wildlife rehabber, who will care for it until it's ready to be released back into the wild.

To learn more about what to do if you think you've found an injured or orphaned animal, visit the Ohio Division of Wildlife's website.

🐢 Please Report Reptile and Amphibian Road Crossing Hotspots for Wildlife Research 🐸
🔗 https://ow.ly/agO150YVKew
⚠️ Our agency, in partnership with Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Department of Natural Resources, are asking the public to report locations where they see reptiles and amphibians frequently cross roadways. Wildlife crossings put both animals and passenger vehicles at risk on the roadway, so reports can help ODNR and ODOT can create safer solutions for wildlife crossing areas.

☠️ In spring and summer, reptiles such as box turtles, snapping turtles, and snakes are vulnerable to vehicles as they cross roadways to lay eggs, find new habitat, or seek shelter. In the early spring and occasionally in the fall, amphibians like salamanders, frogs, and toads sometimes cross roads as they travel to breeding areas.

👀 Observers can report locations of reptile and amphibian road crossings via the Wildlife Reporting System (https://ow.ly/agO150YVKew) and on the HuntFish OH mobile app. Observations of live animals are helpful, as are reports of roadkill. Users are encouraged to take note of road crossing locations and submit reports once they are no longer driving. Never use this app while driving; please park in a safe location before reporting or ask a passenger to make the report.
