At 0927hrs, Company 11 along with units from Sharpsburg Fire & Sharpsburg EMS were alerted for a garbage truck over an embankment on Limekiln Rd.

Engine 11-2 arrived on scene to find a garbage truck approximately 150 ft down a steep embankment. Units were unable to make access from the roadway, which required personnel to find other means of access. Crews proceeded on foot via towpath to reach the truck. After assessment, Hazmat 20 was started as well as UTV 11 and UTV 8 to help transport equipment and personnel to the incident scene. One patient from the vehicle was transported with non-life threatening injuries. Units operated for approximately 4 hours, clearing a path through the heavily wooded area to the vehicle and to allow the hazmat team to pump off the fuel.

At this time, the 3300 Blk of Limekiln Rd IAO the steep cliff, is closed indefinitely. Local traffic will be able to access their homes.

Last nights storm kept crews busy. While crews handled several wires down calls, Engine 11-2 and Engine Tanker 11 were alerted for the working house fire in Company 12’s (FairPlay) first due.

The Washington County Division of Emergency Services and Division of Emergency Management and Communications are advising motorists that the 3300 block of Limekiln Road is closed following an incident this morning that caused significant damage to the roadway. Both ends of the road will remain open to local traffic, allowing residents to access their homes.

At approximately 9:27 a.m., a garbage truck left the roadway and traveled approximately 150 feet off the road, resulting in damage to Limekiln Road.

The road will remain closed until repairs can be completed and the roadway is determined to be safe for travel.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternate route. Local residents may access their homes from either end of the road. Additional information will be provided when the roadway is reopened.

The Washington County Division of Emergency Services and Division of Emergency Management and Communications appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation while crews work to address the roadway damage.
