The Washington County Highway Department announces that Harpers Ferry Road between Millers Sawmill Road and Canal Road will be closed again on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for continued tree removal.

SVFC responded to a report of a field fire in the 4200 block of Harpers Ferry Road this afternoon. The fire was quickly brought under control with assistance from Washington County DES, Potomac Valley Fire Company, Boonsboro Fire Department, Shepherdstown Fire Department and Community Volunteer Fire Company of Fairplay. The rapidly spreading fire burned approximately 5 acres.

SVFC responded to assist Shepherdstown Fire Department on an Outside Gas Leak this afternoon. An unattended vehicle drifted down into the yard striking the top of a buried propane tank shearing off a valve. Crews dissipated the vapors with hose streams while allowing the tank to “off gas” before assisting the gas company in removing the vehicle
