Fantastic news!! 🎉 Thank you to the City of Shasta Lake for your continued efforts to keep our city safe!!

The City of Shasta Lake is proud to announce that it has been designated as a 2026 Fire Risk Reduction Community (FRRC) by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection. Only 42 cities statewide received this two-year designation, recognizing communities that are taking proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk.
This designation may provide benefits to residents, as some insurance companies offer improved coverage options, lower premiums, or wildfire mitigation discounts for properties in communities actively working to reduce fire risk. Residents are encouraged to check with their insurance provider to learn about available discounts.

The FRRC designation also strengthens the City's ability to compete for state and federal grant funding that supports fuel reduction, defensible space, vegetation management, firebreaks, and community education. The City has already treated hundreds of acres of public and private land and will continue working to make Shasta Lake more wildfire resilient.

🇺🇸 Freedom 250 at Shasta Dam is going to be a big one! 🇺🇸

Join us July 3rd & 4th for a FREE, family-friendly celebration at Shasta Dam, including the 1st Annual Shasta Lake Drone Show, free dam tours, live music, food trucks, kids activities, the Freedom 250 program, and a National Bell Ringing.

Red flag warnings are in effect until 5 PM Thursday, June 11, 2026. What this mean is that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please avoid using equipment or machinery that could create a spark. Secure tow chains to avoid dragging or subsequent sparks. Never toss cigarette butts out of your vehicles window. Remember one less spark, one less flame.

Within the last decade, Shasta County has seen several major fires.
Nearly half a million acres burned.
Over 2,500 structures were damaged or destroyed.

Nearly every part of this county faces some level of wildfire risk.

The vegetation fire that broke out today, the Shasta Fire, that started at approximately 12:30 pm between I5 and Akrich Street in Shasta Lake City has been contained to 12.9 acres. Mop up efforts will continue into the evening time. The collaborative efforts from multiple agencies - Cal Fire SHU, Shasta County Fire, Redding Fire, Mountain Gate Fire, and the US Forest Service, worked tirelessly to keep the community safe and stopped forward progress into residential areas. While fire crews are working in the area, please slow down and try to avoid the area until the incident has been concluded.
