🦖📚 Summer Reading Program Officially Underway at Shattuck Public Library ☀️📖
The excitement of summer has officially arrived at the Shattuck Public Library as the 2026 Summer Reading Program is now underway 🎉📚.
Library staff say the response has already been tremendous, with eager readers lining up before opening 🚪⏰ to begin this year’s Reading Challenge 📖🏆.
💬 “The kids were eagerly waiting at the door,” library staff shared. “It’s exciting to see their enthusiasm for reading and for the library.” ❤️📚
This year’s summer theme, “Unearth a Story” 🦴⛏️, invites readers of all ages to dig into adventure 🌎, discovery 🔎, and imagination ✨ through books and hands-on activities.
One of the first major events of the season will take place on Wednesday, June 3 📅, with a Dino Dig Adventure 🦕🦴 designed to thrill young explorers and families alike 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. Participants will take part in an archaeological-style excavation ⛏️, digging through the earth to uncover ancient fossils 🦴 and buried dinosaurs 🦖 while learning about the prehistoric past 🌋.
While summer temperatures may be rising ☀️🥵, organizers are making sure guests can stay cool during the adventure ❄️🍧.
Families are encouraged to attend together 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦❤️ and take part in the fun-filled event as the library launches another season of reading 📚 and community engagement 🤝.
The Summer Reading Program includes reading challenges 🏅📖, educational programs 🧠✨, and special activities 🎨🎬 throughout June, all centered around the goal of inspiring curiosity 🔍 and a lifelong love of learning ❤️📚.

🦖📚 Shattuck Public Library Invites the Community to “Unearth a Story” this Summer ☀️📖

This summer, the Shattuck Public Library is digging into adventure, imagination, and discovery with its 2026 Summer Reading Program! 🦕⛏️ Packed with prizes 🎁, special guests 🌟, movies 🎬, and family-friendly activities 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, the library’s June lineup promises something exciting for all ages.

The summer fun begins with the library’s Reading Challenge 📚🏆, open to ages 5–122 🎉. Readers are encouraged to dive into books all summer long 📖💡 for the chance to earn prizes while building a lifelong love of reading ❤️📚.

Returning by popular demand is the Read2Play program 🏖️📘, offering even more rewards this year including prizes 🎁 and pool passes 🏊‍♂️☀️. Library staff say the program is designed to encourage reading while helping families stay active and engaged during the summer months 🌞👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. Adding another creative element to this year’s celebration 🎨✨, rising artist Jaxen Gonzales 🖌️ has placed his artwork on loan for display at the library throughout the month of June 🦖🎮🦸‍♂️. Gonzales creates imaginative and eye-catching pieces featuring dinosaurs 🦕, superheroes 🦸, and video game themes 🎮 across several artistic mediums. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and experience the talented young artist’s work while enjoying the summer programs 🖼️📚.

One of the season’s most anticipated events arrives on June 8 at 10:00 a.m. ⏰, when acclaimed storyteller and biologist Dr. Fran Stallings 🔬📖 visits the library for a unique biology storytelling adventure 🧬🌎. Combining science 🧪, creativity 🎭, and engaging tales 📚, the program is expected to spark curiosity and delight young explorers and lifelong learners alike ✨🦋.

Community creativity takes center stage on June 19 🎨🖍️ during a Community Coloring Event. Participants of all ages 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 are invited to help complete a large collaborative mural inspired by this year’s “Unearth a Story” theme 🦴🖌️. The project offers a chance for residents to work together 🤝 and leave their artistic mark on a shared community creation 🖼️❤️.

The library will once again reach for the stars 🌌✨ on June 20 with another Star Party 🔭⭐. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the night sky 🌠 using the library’s new telescope 🔭, along with the library’s additional telescope available for checkout 📦🌙—making it possible for families to continue their own celestial adventures at home 🏡🚀.

The beloved Shattuck Fire Department Ice Cream Social 🚒🍦 also makes its return on June 25 at 2:00 p.m. ⏰. Families can cool off with sweet treats 🍨, meet local firefighters 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒, and get an up-close look at the department’s impressive fire truck 🚒🔥. Library staff say they are thrilled to welcome the fire department back for another year of summertime fun ☀️🎉.

The library is teasing a surprise guest 🤠❓ whose appearance date and time are still to be determined 📅. While details remain under wraps 🎭, organizers offered one clue: “Buckle up for some cowboy poetry!” 🤠🐎📜

Movie lovers 🎥🍿 can also enjoy Movie Fridays throughout June, featuring screenings of the Jurassic Park films 🦖🎬—a fitting companion to this year’s prehistoric-inspired theme 🦴🌿.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has officially approved Oklahoma’s BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) Program, unlocking hundreds of millions in funding to expand high-speed internet across the state.

📚🍪 Wow! What a Success! 🍪📚

The Friends of the Shattuck Library Book & Bake Sale was a huge success—we sold out of everything! 🎉

Hundreds of pounds of books, magazines, and videos have found new homes, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the amazing support from our community. 💙

Don’t worry—there are still plenty more items waiting to be discovered in the back, so be sure to stop by and browse!

Since all the baked goods are gone, we will not be open for the sale tomorrow. If you missed out, we’re so sorry—but don’t worry, we’ll be back again next year!

Thank you to everyone who donated, baked, volunteered, and shopped—you made this event truly incredible! 🙌

A Special Visit from Local Author Richard Isaacs ✍️📚
We had the pleasure of welcoming local Shattuck resident and author Richard Isaacs to the library last week! 😊 After giving him a tour of the facility and showing off some of the newest additions, we sat down for a wonderful conversation about his work—especially his book Chasing Ellison. 📖

Richard shared insights into his writing process, including the extensive research he puts into each story 🔍 and how he often incorporates real people he meets along the way into his books 👥. It made for a fascinating discussion about storytelling, inspiration, and the creative journey ✨.

You can find several of Richard’s works here at the library, including Chasing Ellison, January Molasses, and Kanson…a Son of Kansas. 📚 We truly enjoyed our time visiting with him and look forward to his upcoming release 🎉.

Who is ready for some scrumdiddlyumptious tasty treats from the Friends of the Shattuck Public Library? We are! Visit the library this Friday (and maybe Saturday if there's anything left) starting at 8:00am sharp! There will also be books, oh so many books... Be sure to visit the other garage sales going on around town, too for the Shattuck Chamber garage sale weekend!

Come support our book and bake sale during the Shattuck Chamber's townwide garage sale weekend! All proceeds go towards supporting The Shattuck Public Library! We are also accepting donations of baked goods. They can be dropped off at the library on April 16th and the day of the bake sale.
