๐ฆ๐ Shattuck Public Library Invites the Community to โUnearth a Storyโ this Summer โ๏ธ๐
This summer, the Shattuck Public Library is digging into adventure, imagination, and discovery with its 2026 Summer Reading Program! ๐ฆโ๏ธ Packed with prizes ๐, special guests ๐, movies ๐ฌ, and family-friendly activities ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ, the libraryโs June lineup promises something exciting for all ages.
The summer fun begins with the libraryโs Reading Challenge ๐๐, open to ages 5โ122 ๐. Readers are encouraged to dive into books all summer long ๐๐ก for the chance to earn prizes while building a lifelong love of reading โค๏ธ๐.
Returning by popular demand is the Read2Play program ๐๏ธ๐, offering even more rewards this year including prizes ๐ and pool passes ๐โโ๏ธโ๏ธ. Library staff say the program is designed to encourage reading while helping families stay active and engaged during the summer months ๐๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ. Adding another creative element to this yearโs celebration ๐จโจ, rising artist Jaxen Gonzales ๐๏ธ has placed his artwork on loan for display at the library throughout the month of June ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆธโโ๏ธ. Gonzales creates imaginative and eye-catching pieces featuring dinosaurs ๐ฆ, superheroes ๐ฆธ, and video game themes ๐ฎ across several artistic mediums. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and experience the talented young artistโs work while enjoying the summer programs ๐ผ๏ธ๐.
One of the seasonโs most anticipated events arrives on June 8 at 10:00 a.m. โฐ, when acclaimed storyteller and biologist Dr. Fran Stallings ๐ฌ๐ visits the library for a unique biology storytelling adventure ๐งฌ๐. Combining science ๐งช, creativity ๐ญ, and engaging tales ๐, the program is expected to spark curiosity and delight young explorers and lifelong learners alike โจ๐ฆ.
Community creativity takes center stage on June 19 ๐จ๐๏ธ during a Community Coloring Event. Participants of all ages ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ are invited to help complete a large collaborative mural inspired by this yearโs โUnearth a Storyโ theme ๐ฆด๐๏ธ. The project offers a chance for residents to work together ๐ค and leave their artistic mark on a shared community creation ๐ผ๏ธโค๏ธ.
The library will once again reach for the stars ๐โจ on June 20 with another Star Party ๐ญโญ. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the night sky ๐ using the libraryโs new telescope ๐ญ, along with the libraryโs additional telescope available for checkout ๐ฆ๐โmaking it possible for families to continue their own celestial adventures at home ๐ก๐.
The beloved Shattuck Fire Department Ice Cream Social ๐๐ฆ also makes its return on June 25 at 2:00 p.m. โฐ. Families can cool off with sweet treats ๐จ, meet local firefighters ๐ฉโ๐๐จโ๐, and get an up-close look at the departmentโs impressive fire truck ๐๐ฅ. Library staff say they are thrilled to welcome the fire department back for another year of summertime fun โ๏ธ๐.

Movie lovers ๐ฅ๐ฟ can also enjoy Movie Fridays throughout June, featuring screenings of the Jurassic Park films ๐ฆ๐ฌโa fitting companion to this yearโs prehistoric-inspired theme ๐ฆด๐ฟ.
