The trees are all gone thanks to Indy Elming and his crew. We've got to test the soil and then start delivering tons of dirt to level out the pad. Exciting times for the new station build.

Saturday was our annual RT-130 Wildland Refresher. We train on Fire Shelters, line cutting, pump-and-roll, and hose lays. We threw in some pump tank training for the engineers.
Members of Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Huntington Lake Volunteer Fire Department joined us.
This is a required class that all fire departments train on every year in order to prepare themselves for wildland fire response.

A special thanks to Mountain Tripper Cafe & Tea House in Shaver for donating the much needed coffee to start our day. And a really big shout-out to Shaver neighbor Don Valenzuaela who made us all a huge lunch at his house. We really enjoyed it!

New station update!
Meeting today with the leaders of the New Shaver Station team. We have the location donated/leased by Edison. We have the floor plans thanks to GMA Architects. We have the best contractors on the mountain in Pius Construction and Doug Koerper.
But our first big task is tree clearing and pad prep. We hope to start that in the next few days!
So if you see tree and dirt trucks driving in and out near the big banners in town, that's us!

Last week the department got together for celebration for Engineer David Goss. After 10 years with the department, which included the Creek Fire, David is retiring from the Shaver Lake Fire Department.
He has been an integral part of the team, a senior member and mentor to many over the last decade.
Please join us in congratulating him on his service and his retirement.

There was a reason for a delay on the six-mile tonight. It was a bad situation, but could have been so much worse.

* The roads are slick up here
* Four wheel drive is useless if you have city tires or bald treads
* Evenings and mornings will freeze any water on the road
* Some corners never see sunlight and the ice is permanent
* Always carry chains and know how to use them
* PLEASE, drive safely.

Thanks to Eagle Towing and Caltrans for everything you do.
