ATV/UTV Law Updates (June 1, 2026)

As riding season continues, we want to remind everyone of several important ATV/UTV law changes:

✅ Operators AND passengers in a UTV are required to wear a seatbelt.

✅ Intentionally causing damage with an ATV or UTV can result in penalties of up to THREE TIMES the cost of repairs.

✅ ATV/UTV operators may not tow any object carrying a person on a trail or route. Towing persons on ice is limited to 10 mph.

✅ UTVs are now subject to window tint restrictions.

***The fire scene has been cleared, and Hwy 29 is back open***

Hwy 29 Detour Notice

Hwy 29 westbound lanes are closed due to a vehicle fire between Hwy 22 and CTH MMM.

Westbound traffic will be detoured as follows:

Exit at Hwy 22
Travel north on Main Street through Shawano
Continue west on CTH MMM
Re-enter Hwy 29 at CTH MMM

The closure is expected to last several hours.

Please use caution and be prepared for heavier-than-normal traffic in the City of Shawano during this time.

This Memorial Day, the members of the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

We are forever grateful to our fallen heroes and the families they left behind.

We are very proud to see one of our very own recognized along Main Street as one of Shawano’s Hometown Heroes!

Ann Holcomb, our Evidence Technician, has dedicated herself not only to serving our community here at the Sheriff’s Office, but also to serving our country through her military service in the United States Army. We are incredibly thankful for her commitment, professionalism, and the countless things she does behind the scenes each and every day.

Ann truly is the glue that helps hold us together, and this recognition is well deserved. Congratulations, Ann, and thank you for your continued service to both our nation and Shawano County!

Every year the Shawano Optimist Club honors local law enforcement with it's respect for Law program. This year Chief Deputy Ty Raddant was honored for the Shawano Sheriff's. Ty recently celebrated his 30 years with the county and has done so much for the community in the last 30 years. He has volunteered so much as far as coaching baseball, softball, and cross country.
Congratulations Ty!!!
We also want to Congratulate Detective Brent Dilge who received the award for the Shawano Police Department.
