On August 11th we deployed our boat and water rescue trailer to assist New Lexington with water rescues from the first flash flooding event. Our crew evacuated several mobile homes and transported the victims to safe ground. Our crews arrived around 1 AM and returned at 6 AM.

Then on August 16th at 3 AM we deployed a joint Shawnee and New Straitsville crew with our water rescue trailer to New Lexington for the second flash flooding event event. We carried out water rescues in the area of Jefferson St and West Broadway. Then at 6:00 AM we assisted New Lexington Fire with a swift water rescue on Fairview St.

The crew remained in New Lexington until 1.

As of today, Shawnee has received over 14 inches of rain this month. Fortunately we have been spared the damage others in the county have suffered.

Update: the fire continues burn. During the day the wind has carried the smoke towards the East.

After sunset flames or an orange glow may be one visible again.

There is a large fire burning tonight in the old Tecumseh Trails area along state Route 155. It is logging debris and chips. According to the logging company it started earlier today after the rain.

We have investigated it and the area is surrounded by mudd. We are unable to access the site by ground. Currently rains have lessened the glow.

It is likely the fire will continue to burn into tomorrow and the smell of wood smoke will remain in the area.

Wednesday afternoon at 2:46 pm we were dispatched to assist New Lexington with a motor vehicle accident north of Marietta Rd on St. Rt. 93.

We provided traffic control and assisted in the landing zone for Medflight.

St. Rt. 93 remained close for sometime.

Sunday evening at 9:35pm we were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 10000 block of Poplar St in Hemlock.

The first unit on scene reported smoke coming from the basement of the house. As other units arrived they located the fire in a corner of the basement. They were able to quickly knock the fire down and contain it to the basement. Additional mutual aide companies checked for fire extension elsewhere in the house and then ventilated the structure.

The residents safely evacuated when the fire was discovered. No one was injured in the incident/
