Training Today at Horace Mann Middle School
Sheboygan Public Safety Agencies and Community Partners to Conduct Joint Critical Incident Training

The City of Sheboygan Police and Fire Departments, in partnership with the Sheboygan Area School District, law enforcement agencies from throughout Sheboygan County, and other community partners, will conduct a joint Critical Incident Training exercise on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The training will take place at Horace Mann Middle School, located at 2820 Union Avenue in the City of Sheboygan. To provide a realistic training environment, Horace Mann Middle School and the surrounding campus, including the soccer fields and parking lots, will be closed to the public for the duration of the exercise.
The training will be facilitated by the Mercyhealth Trauma Preparedness Team, a nationally recognized leader in emergency preparedness and critical incident training. Drawing on extensive experience in healthcare, public safety, and multi-agency response, the team will provide participants with realistic, scenario-based instruction focused on active threat response, Rescue Task Force operations, and coordinated emergency response. Their expertise will help ensure all participating agencies are training using current best practices and proven response strategies.
This collaborative training is part of an ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe. By bringing together law enforcement, fire personnel, school staff, emergency medical professionals, and other emergency responders, participants will strengthen communication, coordination, and response capabilities to ensure a faster, more effective response during a critical incident.
Residents may notice an increased presence of police officers, firefighters, emergency vehicles, ambulances, and other first responders in the area throughout the day. All surrounding streets will remain open, and there is no threat to the public. The activity is a planned training exercise designed to enhance public safety.
To help ensure the training is conducted safely and effectively, community members are asked to avoid the immediate training area and refrain from gathering near the campus. This will allow participants to remain fully focused on the exercise while creating the most realistic training environment possible.
