On May 29, 2026, at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to a bicycle accident in the parking lot of Horace Mann Middle School. Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old Sheboygan man deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the bicycle accident. No other vehicles were involved in this incident and no other persons are being sought at this time.

Investigation has determined the accident occurred overnight. The victim struck a parking barrier in the parking lot and sustained serious head trauma. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The victim of the accident is not associated with the Sheboygan Area School District. In light of the incident, the Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) made the decision to close Horace Mann Middle School for the day and thanked families for their understanding and flexibility during this difficult time.

Family members of Horace Mann students are encouraged to refer to correspondence from SASD for additional information.

It looks like our upcoming weekend weather will provide an excellent opportunity to get out for a bike ride or go for a walk! As we wrap up May's National Bicycle Safety Month, our support of non-motorized travel will continue indefinitely, through education and enforcement. Whichever mode of transportation you chose, be sure to adhere to traffic laws and ordinances, so that we can all reach our destination safely!

Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

Meet Officer Dustin Fickett, our newest South Side Beat Cop at the Sheboygan Police Department. Dustin is originally from Sheboygan and is a South Sider at heart.

Dustin has always been the kind of person who lifts others up and cheers his team on. In high school, he proudly served as the beloved mascot for the Sheboygan South Redwings and the Sheboygan A’s, always bringing energy and support to the athletes on game day.

That same passion for teamwork never left. Today, Officer Fickett continues to build up others as an adjunct instructor at Lakeshore College, where he has spent the past 12 years helping prepare future officers. He leads our Cadet Program and runs the state’s largest Bike Rodeo. He also serves as one of our lead instructors here at the Sheboygan Police Department, helping our team grow stronger every day.

Dustin is the definition of a team player, always ready to help a teammate sharpen their skills and succeed.

What’s your passion?

At the Sheboygan Police Department, we believe in finding the right people for the right roles, so you can do what you love while serving your community.

If you’re ready to be part of a team that supports, challenges, and lifts each other up, we’d love to talk to you. https://www.sheboyganwi.gov/270/Employment
