We're excited to have Laura Griffin presenting our September 8th Nature at Noon program with "Birds & Art Therapy."

Laura Griffin, ATR-BC is a retired art therapist at RCS Empowers. Her presentation will focus on the positive effects birds can have in our lives.

The program begins at Noon in the Maywood Ecology Center. There is no fee to attend, but donations at the door are greatly appreciated.

Bring your lunch to enjoy during the presentation. Maywood will provide coffee, tea, water, and dessert.

This prize includes a selection of DRAMM tools and fertilizer, a $50 gift certificate to Prairie Moon Nursery, and a beautiful selection of garden décor from LaValley Home, Garden & Natural Habitat.

Tickets for the raffle are available at Maywood during regular hours. We'll also be selling tickets in the Maywood booth at the Sheboygan Farmer's Market on Wednesday, September 9th.

Tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $20 (cash).

These monarchs have quite the journey ahead of them!

The monarchs you see now are known as the "Super Generation" or "Methuselah Generation" monarchs. These monarchs will journey to Mexico - that's a lot of flying!

Many of the summer monarchs we see only live two to six weeks. However, the final generation each season live six to nine months. They delay reproduction until the spring when they will begin to journey north, creating the next generation as they encounter milkweed plants to lay eggs.

How can you help the Super Generation Monarchs on their journey?
*Include native food sources in your landscaping including native golden rods and asters
*Allow fall blooming plants to stay standing in your landscape. They are providing much needed food for monarchs here as well as those journeying south from farther north. Monarchs have been spotted in Wisconsin as late as November.
