The Correspondent by Virginia Evans lets the reader experience Sybil’s life first hand as she writes letters to various friends and family members. The tone of each of those exchanges colors in the picture until by the end the reader has a vivid image of this main character. Sybil’s penpals become real as they reply and ask questions back and forth. This senior-aged single (by divorce) lady grapples with real life issues, and a tragic loss.. This is an engaging read; no chapters. Intentional word choice, thoughtful consideration of topics and feelings and the discipline used to keep in touch with and share her feelings as she tackles grief, romance, estrangement, adoption, illness, friendship, kept me turning from page to page. I was wishing I could correspond with her by the time I finished the book Available at the Sheffield Township Library.
