Dear NESC Families,
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected and consumed almost every aspect of our lives over the last four months. As we prepare to welcome students back to school on August 11, 2020, there are many changes in procedures in response to guidelines from the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Department of Health & Local Health Officials. Follow this link to our website to read the return-to-school parent letter as well as the full plan with options.

Do you have a friend or family member with a student at ANY Sullivan County School (Northeast East Elementary, Northeast North Elementary, North Central Jr./Sr. High School, Dugger Union Community Schools, Sullivan Elementary School, Carlisle Middle School/elem, Sullivan High School & Middle School, and/or Rural Community Academy) who has UNRELIABLE INTERNET CONNECTION or NO INTERNET CONNECTION at home? If so, please reach out to them THIS EVENING, if they don't have internet they likely haven't seen this, so take a moment to give them a call and help fill the survey out for them. This survey will be used in a county-wide effort to secure a Governor's grant to bring reliable internet to our county school children! This survey expires at midnight tonight. Again, Sullivan County schools are coming together in hopes of this grant. Visit the survey by following this link:

MORE INFORMATION:
The Southwest School Corporation, Northeast School Corporation, Dugger-Union Community School Corporation, and the Rural Community Academy are partnering to apply for the Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund, which encourages schools to develop creative, community-level internet connectivity solutions. All Sullivan County schools are working diligently to prepare for the 2020-21 school year. That includes being better prepared for any potential days of eLearning. Part of being prepared is knowing who does not have reliable internet access and why. Once we know this information, Joink will be assisting us in determining what might be needed to get reliable internet to our Sullivan County families, even if that includes other avenues such as other internet and/or cellular providers. If you know of any Sullivan County families without reliable internet access, please let them know about this important survey. DO NOT COMPLETE THIS SURVEY IF YOU HAVE RELIABLE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET.
This joint effort to compete for the GEER funds is due by July 17 so we must have a very short survey window. This survey will close at midnight Sunday, July 12. Again, please complete this survey only if you do not have reliable internet access.

From the SWSC, NESC, DUCS, and RCA, thank you for your assistance in helping us determine who still needs access and/or reliable access to the internet!

We are excited to honor our 2020 graduates at the formal commencement this Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 10 A.M. Please see the letter below for changes to the event in order to meet state guidelines.

Dear Thunderbird Class of 2020, family and friends,

We are excited to honor each of our 2020 graduates at our formal commencement on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 10 AM. In order to abide by the changes made to Governor Holcomb’s “Indiana Back on Track Plan,” we must move our graduation ceremony outdoors.

On July 4th, Indiana was scheduled to move to Stage 5, which included opening all indoor facilities to 100% capacity, however, during the Governor’s latest address, he announced that Indiana was pushing that further out as positive cases continue to rise across the country. This change will continue to limit indoor facilities to gatherings of 250 people or less until July 18th.

Instead of postponing, the graduation committee has decided to move the ceremony to the football field while continuing to follow CDC guidelines. The six (6) tickets previously mailed to you will continue to serve as your ticket into the event. Ticketed guests must enter the north gate of the stadium together and sit together. If you purchased “reserved” seats through TSF, they will be marked accordingly. All other seats will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Guests are to remain seated for the entirety of the program. The north gate of the field will open promptly at 9:00 AM. NO ONE will be allowed on the NC campus without a ticket.

A stage will be constructed at midfield on the inside of the track with graduates seated in chairs on either side of the stage. Ticket holders will be seated in the “home” side of the bleachers. The Formal Commencement will also be streamed live on the NESC page (www.facebook.com/NESchoolCorp).

Graduation practice is scheduled as planned. All members of the Class of 2020 who plan to participate in the ceremony must attend practice on July 10 at 10 AM - NO EXCEPTIONS. Don’t forget to ask your child which side he/she is sitting on to help you choose your seats.

In the event of inclement weather, we will ask all guests to return/remain in their vehicles and graduates will move to the north gym until the weather clears and we can proceed with the ceremony.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Mrs. Huff, Miss Slack, or Dr. Baker by email or call the central office at (812) 397-5390.
Once again, congratulations to the Class of 2020, we are eager to honor you!

Sincerely,

Nancy Liston, Principal
