We are in for some brutal winter weather this coming weekend, Vermont! Please use caution when spending any time outdoors or traveling. Below 0 temperatures can cause frostbite in a matter of minutes! Be sure to check on your loved ones and neighbors, too.

🦴⚕️Preparing to Manage Fractures ⚕️🦴

Tonight, department staff and volunteers trained on the Slishman splint and traction device. This versatile piece of equipment allows us to stabilize long-bone fractures and, for certain injuries, apply pain-relieving traction in the field.

An added benefit of the Slishman device is that it replaces three separate pieces of equipment previously carried on the ambulance, while remaining fully adjustable for patients of different ages, shapes, and sizes. This improves efficiency, reduces clutter, and enhances patient care.

The department was able to upgrade to the Slishman device thanks in part to a generous donation from the Charlotte-Shelburne-Hinesburg Rotary made a little over a year ago. We’re grateful for their continued support of local emergency services and for helping us bring modern, patient-centered tools to our community.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing® has awarded Chief Andrew Kehl the professional designation of Chief EMS Officer. Following an extensive peer review process, this designation recognizes demonstrated excellence in seven measured components: experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. In receiving this designation, Chief Kehl becomes the first CEMSO in Vermont (to our knowledge).

Meeting these stringent requirements will allow Chief Kehl to bring a higher level of professionalism and service to the Town of Shelburne Rescue Department.

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from Shelburne Rescue! 🦃

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors this holiday weekend, we’re grateful for the Shelburne community and the privilege of serving you. To help keep your celebrations safe and healthy, here are a few important Thanksgiving Safety Tips from your local EMS team:

🍽️ In the Kitchen

* Stay with your food while cooking—unattended stovetops are a leading cause of holiday fires.
* Keep children and pets at least 3 feet from hot surfaces and sharp objects.
* Make sure smoke detectors are working before the big cooking day.

🔥 Turkey Frying Safety

* Always fry outdoors, away from buildings and decks.
* Make sure your turkey is completely thawed to avoid dangerous flare-ups.
* Keep a fire extinguisher nearby—never use water on a grease fire.

🚗 Travel & Weather

* Expect winter conditions—slow down, leave extra space, and pack warm gear.
* Give yourself extra time and avoid driving if roads become icy.
* Always designate a sober driver for holiday gatherings.

❄️ Health & Wellness

* Stay hydrated and pace alcohol consumption.
* Check on elderly neighbors or relatives who may be alone or need assistance.
* If you’re feeling unwell, consider delaying large gatherings.

From all of us at Shelburne Rescue, we wish you a safe, warm, and joyful Thanksgiving.

If you need us, we’re here—24/7/365.

Stay warm and safe, Shelburne! ❤️🚑🦃

🙌 Shelburne Rescue Honors Distinguished Volunteers 🙌

On October 14, 2025, we proudly recognized Chief Jacob Leopold, Julia Jacques, and Thomas Candon with our department’s highest honor — the Distinguished Service Award.🏅

Together, they’ve contributed over 70 years of volunteer emergency medical service to the Town of Shelburne. While they’ve each retired from active ambulance staffing, they continue to serve as Auxiliary Members, supporting public education and administrative projects.🚑

Please join us in thanking them for their tremendous dedication, leadership, and service to our community. 🎉

👏 Job well done! 👏
