Scammers want you to act before you have time to think. Don’t give them the chance.

Whether it’s a call about a family member in trouble, a utility shutoff, a computer warning or someone asking you to move money, remember three things: Stop. Slow down. Verify.

Never let someone pressure you into making an immediate financial decision. Hang up and contact the person, company or agency directly using a phone number you know is legitimate.

If you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam, contact your bank immediately and report it to your local police department.

A few minutes to verify could save your life savings.
