As temperatures rise, so does the danger inside a vehicle. Even when it's only 80°F outside, the temperature inside a car can climb to nearly 100°F in just 10 minutes and exceed 120°F within an hour.

Cracking a window doesn't make it safe. Leaving the air conditioning running isn't a guarantee. And "just a minute" can quickly become much longer.

Children are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses because their bodies heat up much faster than adults.

Before you lock your vehicle:
• Check the back seat every time.
• Keep keys and fobs out of children's reach.
• If you see a child alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately.

Never leave a child in a vehicle for any amount of time, for any reason. Not even for one minute.

A big shoutout to the crew at Station 2 for another great rescue yesterday! 🦆

Our firefighters responded after 11 ducklings became trapped in a sewer drain. Thanks to their quick work and teamwork, every duckling was safely rescued and reunited with mama duck nearby.

Not every call involves fire trucks and hoses, but we’re always proud to help however we can. Great job by the Station 2 crew on a happy ending for this feathered family!

Last month, Macomb County’s Urban Search and Rescue Team, consisting of firefighters from Shelby Township, Chesterfield Fire Department, Clinton Township Firefighters, Sterling Heights Fire Department and Roseville Fire Fighters Union Local 1614 conducted specialized trench rescue training.

These low-frequency, high-risk incidents require extensive hands-on training focused on trench stabilization, shoring systems, victim removal, and scene safety. Crews train in techniques such as pneumatic shoring, soil analysis, atmospheric monitoring, and patient care during trench collapse scenarios.

Training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively when every second counts. Thank you to all departments involved for their commitment to continued training and regional teamwork.
