PLEASE SHARE: Cleveland County Identifies First Case of COVID-19

SHELBY, NC - March 20, 2020 - A Cleveland County resident has tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The test, conducted by a commercial lab, is presumptively positive and will be confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab. While awaiting confirmation of results from the CDC, presumptive cases are treated as positive and follow CDC guidelines to protect public health and limit the spread of infection. The person is doing well and is in isolation at home at this time.

“I know that people are worried about this virus, and I want to assure Cleveland County residents that the local health department and other community partners, including other healthcare providers, are working together to prevent and mitigate the spread of the virus in our community as much as possible,” said DeShay Oliver, Interim Health Director, Cleveland County Health Department. Local health department officials are identifying close contacts to monitor symptoms and contain spread. To protect individual privacy, no further information will be released.

Because COVID-19 is most commonly spread through respiratory droplets, everyone should take the same measures that healthcare providers recommend annually to prevent the spread of the flu and other viruses, including washing your hands, staying home when you are sick, avoiding touching your face, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

If you are sick with fever and symptoms of respiratory illness such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, you are encouraged to stay home and contact your healthcare provider if symptoms persist or worsen. If you have a fever or symptoms of respiratory illness and have had direct contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or have traveled to a geographic area highly impacted by COVID-19, stay home and contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Why is our Voting Precinct changing off Stony Point Rd by Moss Lake. We're driving right past the place we have Voted at for 3 years? Our address has not changed?
Pray tell. How does one find the BOE web site, or does BOE even have one.
Food for thought on Election Day, as you have all heard the rhetoric about how a change is needed for the kids etc etc....Let me enlighten you as to how it really is. A candidates child was recently selected for a school sport over more qualified and experienced children. This came after attending only ONE tryout while all the other students were REQUIRED to participate in at least two to be considered. The choice was so bewildering that even the other players are dumbfounded and it seems to be the talk of this school today. When an administrator was questioned, who refused to go on the record fearing retaliation, the reply was sometimes hands are tied. Remember this as you vote today, even though promises may be made vocally, the "good ole boy" sytem is alive and well even before the results are in. Share if you dare.
