Competitors from a variety of states are set up on the historic courthouse lawn for this weekend's Tennessee Chili 3-Star Championship, made up of three separate cookoffs. There will be International Chili Society-sanctioned cookoffs today and Saturday, with several different categories, as well as a CASI chili cookoff in the traditional red category on Saturday. The cookoff will feature a "people's choice" category allowing casual visitors to purchase a tasting kit so that they can try various entries and cast a vote for their favorite. People's Choice tasting runs from 4-6:30 p.m. today and 12-3 p.m. on Saturday.

There will also be a car show and vendors on the square on Saturday; tonight will be the latest free concert in the Fly Arts Center's free Levitt AMP music series. The concert, featuring DJ Giovanni, runs from 6-8 p.m. and has been moved indoors at The Fly due to weather.

Commissioner Sylvia Pinson and Commissioner Keith Davis were on the courthouse grounds this morning making plans for Friday evening's burial of a time capsule celebrating Bedford County on the occasion of the USA's 250th birthday. They are seen here updating Mayor Chad Graham on their progress.

The burial ceremony will be a part of "Stars & Stripes and Shelbyville Nights," from 4-8 p.m. Friday in downtown Shelbyville. Other activities will include the first concert in The Fly Arts Center 's Levitt Amp Shelbyville Music Series.
