Judge Ison was honored to be on hand and help cut the ribbon to celebrate a very special milestone for Bright Hope Learning Center, formerly Little Light House!

It was a wonderful day recognizing four years of impact in our community, learning more about their inspiring mission, and seeing firsthand the difference they continue to make in the lives of local children and families.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this celebration such a success.

Celebrating the Preservation of Shelby County History

On June 9, 2026, Judge Ison proudly hosted an Open House at the historic former Shelby County Jailer’s Residence, located at 500 Washington Street, to celebrate the successful completion of a major environmental remediation project.

Through a Cleaner Commonwealth Fund subgrant of $147,733.05 from the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection’s Kentucky Brownfield Program, Shelby County completed the remediation of lead-based paint and other hazardous materials from the historic structure. The Kentucky Brownfield Program previously provided a no-cost environmental assessment and cleanup plan to help make this important project possible.

The Fiscal Court, under the leadership of Judge/Executive Dan Ison, also contributed local funding toward the project, which was completed by A&M Industrial Services. Shelby County gratefully acknowledges the assistance of KIPDA’s Community and Economic Development Division for their support with grant application and administration.

Built prior to 1876, the former Jailer’s Residence is a recognized Kentucky Cultural Resource and a contributing property within the National Register of Historic Places-listed Shelby County Courthouse and Main Street Commercial District. With remediation now complete, this historic building is ready for its next chapter.

The renovation of the former Jailer’s Residence will preserve an important piece of Shelby County’s heritage while creating a valuable asset and space to serve our citizens for generations to come.

This project represents just one phase of Judge Ison’s broader vision to restore and revitalize the Historic Old Courthouse property. Through strategic investments in preservation, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse, Judge Ison has worked to ensure that these historic county landmarks remain assets for future generations while continuing to serve the people of Shelby County. The remediation of the former Jailer’s Residence marks an important milestone in that ongoing effort.

Thank you to our state and regional partners, including the Kentucky Brownfield Program, the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, and KIPDA, for helping make this project a reality.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Overnight Closure of Interstate 64 West Rescheduled for Wednesday, June 10, in Shelby County

As part of the $118 million widening and improvement project of Interstate 64 in Shelby County, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that the overnight closure of I-64 West has been rescheduled to begin Wednesday, June 10, due to inclement weather.

I-64 West will be closed from 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, through 6 a.m. Thursday, June 11, from mile point 43.6 to mile point 35.1. Motorists should follow the posted detour of taking the off-ramp to KY 395 (Waddy Road) at Exit 43, to U.S. 60 (Frankfort Road) to KY 53 to reconnect with I-64 West.

All work being performed is part of the $118 million I-64 widening and improvement project in Shelby County, which began in February 2025. The project will increase capacity, upgrade a key interchange, and modernize bridges, ensuring a more efficient and reliable transportation network for motorists.

The three-year project includes widening and pavement upgrades of an 11-mile section of I-64, reconstruction of the KY 53 interchange, rebuilding of three bridges over I-64, and widening of four existing I-64 bridges. These improvements will enhance daily travel while also supporting future growth in the region.

The interstate project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts, will be shared online as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for email alerts regarding weekly traffic impacts pertaining to the project.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.

I-64 East will be closed from 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, from mile point 35.1 to mile point 43.6. Motorists should follow the posted detour of taking the off-ramp to KY 53 at Exit 35, to U.S. 60 (Frankfort Road) to KY 395 (Waddy Road) to reconnect with I-64 East.

Additionally, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 8, the KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road) over I-64 (at mile point 3.174) will be closed for 120 days (through Tuesday, October 6, 2026) from mile point 3 to mile point 3.25.
