The last year has been very challenging for our Heaven Sent Children Adoption program. The pandemic has caused the number of both domestic and international adoptions to decrease significantly. The governing board and Executive Director have struggled for months deciding how to sustain Heaven Sent during this extremely difficult time. The board has recently made the difficult decision to suspend our adoption program through 2021. We will continue to be available to past families to answer questions and provide support as we always have been, as well as acting as a conduit for connection for birth parents and adoptive families as needed.

We are deeply saddened by this decision because adoption is near and dear to our hearts. It is our hope and desire that at some point in the future as our world stabilizes, that we might be in a position once again to provide adoption services. The Center for Family Development remains committed to serving our community and clients, and this difficult decision will enable us to remain viable as we have been for over 20 years.

Heaven Sent's active clients should have already been contacted regarding this change in service. Please contact your adoption counselor if you have questions regarding this matter. If you have been considering starting the adoption process we would be happy to connect you with other adoption agencies in the area. Contact us at [email protected] for more information.

It has been a pleasure working with all of our HSC families. We wish you the best!

Thank you for following along with our National Adoption Month posts and to those that participated! Our participants shared such heartfelt ways of how adoption has shaped or changed their lives.

However, we do want to recognize that adoption does not always come with joyful circumstances. Whether you're an adoptee struggling with identity, a birth parent grieving their placement, or an adoptive family working through challenging child behaviors, adoption can be heavy and hard.

Adoption is a journey--good, bad, joyful, bittersweet, emotional, exhausting, beautiful, painful, and everything in between.
