Provide education and services on reducing, recycling, reusing to all Shelby County residents!

Our goal is to provide Shelby County with a long-term sustainable solid waste management system that includes effective waste reduction through recycling, reclaiming, and education.

Styrofoam is accepted at the Recycle Center. If it breaks, we accept it. If it bends and doesn't break, we can't accept it. Find other uses for the type that doesn't break: use as packing material, shipping material, craft projects, etc.

BATTERIES SHOULD NEVER BE DISPOSED OF IN TRASH OR RECYCLE CONTAINERS! Due to someone’s careless action, a battery ignited a fire at the Shelby County Transfer Station. This act could have caused serious bodily injury or worse, death to our team members. For proper and safe disposal, all batteries are accepted at the Shelby County Recycle Center free of charge. The Shelby County Recycling Center and Transfer Station will be closed on Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day. We will reopen Tuesday at 7:30am. Enjoy the Labor Day Weekend!

We are hiring! We have an opening for a part time Compliance Officer for the Shelby County Recycling District! The role of the Compliance Officer is to enforce the Nuisance Solid Waste Ordinance. Our tire event was successful due to the help of our volunteers from Nucor! We collected 1939 tires! Thank you Nucor employees, A&E Tire which accepted the tires, and IDEM for the Waste Tire Grant!

The Shelby County Recycle Center and Transfer Station will be closed Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th. We will reopen on Monday, July 6th, at 7:30am. We hope you enjoy celebrating our great country!
